im back but help!
    #16842261 - 09/13/12 05:41 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

hey all!!

its good to be back on this forum, i was out for a while..

alright well ive done about 5 grows, all of them with success!
first 3 were brf cakes and the last two i tried doing monotubs and cases, did not go so good there, but still got mushies, although i expected lot more, i was doing something wrong and dont know what.. maybe because i was doing tubs and cases with crushed brf cakes, maybe that?
thinking this was the thing, i bought straight rise, i actually forgot the name of the rice, well the normal to grow, english is my second language and ive been out of the growing vocab for a while, lol.. anyway i bought the rice with a lot of quart jars, at that time i was growing for like 6 months straight and i was living for them and had so much things to take care of so i was kind of tired that i left it...
i did 7 quart jars, the thing is that i dont have a pressure cooker and didnt have money at the time, so i stopped there.. i did sterelize them with a normal pot for like 2 hours or so.. since i knew i needed a P cooker, when they were sterilized some look kind of dried and some wet so i didnt know what to do. i left them like this until today that im getting back, i want you tell me if you know, if it looks dried, wet, or if it just doesnt look right, they were waiting for like 3 months since sterelized. maybe i just really need a p cooker for it to work good i guess.. but i need to know whats the real deal so i dont waste money and time on vane. could you also tell me if the tubs and cases were not working because i was using crushed brf cakes? i want to know my erros..

so until i get it right about the rice and tubs, im going to start with some other brf cakes for the moment, cause im starting today homs!!! cant wait!!!

thank you and cheers!!

All of them but those two in the middle right hand side look like they may possibly be too wet.  If the other dry one doesn't colonize I would try and hit that one back up with spores if you are lazy.

It looks like your sterilization may have worked though, just some jars were too wet.

Grains are better for bulk/tubs.  I also think they colonize faster, but you have to get the moisture content just right.

it is really hard to do grains without a PC. steam sterilizing them usually won't cut it. and all but two of the jars looks much much much too wet. i don't recommend putting more spores in them though.

sometimes it can take up to 21+ days for germination. just hang tight.

Not have a PC wouldn't be the problem with your BRF cakes though. Cakes can work fine as spawn. You never mentioned what exactly is going wrong with the tubs.

you didn't inoculate the third from the right? it looks like you did.. lol

if they have been sitting around for a few months dont even waste the spores on them.  start some from scratch... oh yeah, and just so ya know that looks like rye berries to me.  one of the best spawn mediums

i dont really know what is the problem with the tubs, i followed step by step, so i really dont know what the problem is :S

the problem might be that i was using brf cakes as spawn and thats why im changing to (rye berries)

and i didnt inoculate them, im sure of that, yeah some of them got bacteria i guess it is, since i didnt pressure cook, i guess that is the result, totally not wasting spores on these guys!! thanks
