Clear liquid forming inside quart jars
    #16852335 - 09/15/12 04:06 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I have these jars that were sterilized and inoculated under very sterile conditions. Over the last week and a half this clear yellowish liquid has been forming inside the jars. there is no molding whatsoever in the jars and the mycellium is growing steadily. Can anyone tell me, is this a contamination or is this just a normal occurrence when growing on rye grain. Here are some pictures.

Metabolites

And they assured me that they loved me and they told me not to be amazed; not to give way to astonishment. And so I watched them, even though I wondered if maybe I hadn't really done it this time, and what they were doing was they were making objects come into existence by singing them into existence."-Terence McKenna

Yep, metabolites indeed.  A natural byproduct of the mycellium's growth.  You're good.

ok well I just broke the jars up  so they could finish colonizing. there were a few small clumps that i couldn't get broken up but that was more so because i couldn't get them near the edges of the jar to bash against it. so maybe about 3 more days and it should be good to go for my first fruiting. i plan on using aluminum cake pans with hpoo and a verm/coir casing. the temp has been holding steady at 77 F and i've pulled them out for a few hours a day to get some light.

Yeah that's actually a bad name for them though. It's not a waste product at all. Some are produced to help digest the substrate and others to kill bacteria.

im talkin about the filters you have, usually they are only used for LCs (liquid cultures)
