Cobweb mold eating mycelium!
    #16850026 - 09/15/12 05:45 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

So last week while pasteurizing hpoo my propane ran out and I never fully pasteurized the substrate, this was only realized ~24hrs after spawning when 3 out of 20 trays were covered in thick cobweb mold... Wtf. I was kind of pissed and just didn't want to deal with the peroxide spraying so I honestly gave up on the three trays... until I noticed over the next 5 days that the mycelium was still getting a foot hold in the top later of the sub, then I wake one morning to find that the mold structure had been collapsed by a over development of mycelium enzymes, ~24-36hrs later the trays were fully colonized, I mean 100%!! No nickle or dime spots, nothing. I cased them ~36hrs ago now and no reoccurrence of the contam. Patching and spraying tomorrow. History: Z strain clone LC>wbs/coffee>hpoo(2:1 spawn rate)> cased with 50/50 peat/verm.

My question is this: has anyone had similar results with mushroom mycelium overtaking contams? I have seen trich overtaken in one of my brf test cakes once, never spawned or fruited it though..

And sorry no pics, I didn't know it was going to happen..

I think your mistaken about the trich. Trich doesn't lose fights

Definitely not mistaken, I cut the cake into slices to check, the mycelium isolated the trich then killed it off with its enzymes then was partially colonized itself, wish I took pics... I must add that it was a very little spot on a almost fully colonized cake, I've lost many fights to trich, I'm saying I've seen the underdog prevail too, asking if anyone else has...

Never... But I also don't get Trich that often, usually
only on spent substrates. The times it's appeared in Cake's
which colonizing. The Mycelium lost.. Trich just spreads to
fast.

Awesome story... again the trich only appeared after the cake was ~80% colonized and when the mycelium reached it, it was a spot about 1-2mm big, the mycelium won, we all have war wounds from contams, I'm looking for stories where/how mushroom mycelium has won.
