BRF Cakes took a little beating. Will they still grow?
    #16843573 - 09/13/12 09:26 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Hi, I recently just took my BRF cakes out of their jars. I had told my mom to get jars that came out straight, but she didn't listen, and I had to make to. Anyways, while the cakes were coming out, they took a little beating. Almost all the pins bruised and were ripped off, and some mycelium chunks were taken out. I just made a fruiting chamber. Despite all the damage, will it still grow?

Yes. You could break the cakes up into shreds and they'll still grow. The pins may grow or may abort, time will tell.

They should but trama is trama.  Next time dont proceed with the tek if you dont got the right supplies...

Now if you tricked your mother into buying jars for blah reason and couldnt explain that she got the wrong jars because your mushroom cakes wont slide out easy.  I suggest you stop growing in your parents house!!  Its wrong and they will get in trouble if you get caught!

You should see if your mom will go pick up some horse manure so you can spawn it to a sub

Thanks for the quick reply. I think I destroyed nearly all my pins. Will more pins form and grow into mushrooms? Sorry for the concern, I am freaking out right now because it was a lot of waiting and I just messed it up with the jar.

More will grow but I'd be as careful as possible to avoid damaging the pins anymore. If you haven't dunked them already you really should.

Also, at this point, do the pins and half-sized mushrooms contain psilocybin? One mushrooms was about the size of my thumb, but a little bit skinnier. Will these get me high?

What strain did you inoculate with?

You should post a pic...

I inoculated with A strain, I can take a picture tomorrow. I'm pretty concerned as of right now though.

If you used a P. Cubensis strain then you will have a good time. Even pins are active.

There is NOTHING you can do right now to magically fix the mess your in, so just relax and know that it's out of your hands. Learn from your mistakes and accept whatever this cake decides to give you. You will be much better at it next time

If there are no pins on the cake I have right now due to destruction, new pins will form, right? Also, I have 2 more jars like this. Would it be wise to break the jar instead of breaking up the mycelium?

It'll likely take more time as the mycelium will need to recover, but when/if it does, more pins will grow.

If you have more jars, look into a bulk substrate. You could rip the cakes out of the jars, break em up and spawn them to a tray.

Breaking the glass will cause shock to the cake as well, not to mention the possibility of injuring yourself.

I would suggest wrapping the outside of the jar in foil.  Then leave the cake in the jar with some wet verm on top.  The fruits will come up through the verm and you should get a decent amount.  For the pf-tek, you don't really have to remove the cakes from the jar.
