Are you not going to be near water at all?

there's going to be some water sources on the way, rather be safe than sorry so I didn't know if I should bring a gallon of water with me. I'm gonna bring iodine with me to treat the water

Camelbak is the way I would do it. I personally just carry a 1 Liter Nalgene bottle. Water is heavy as hell.

Yeah 1 gallon per day is about the average needed when hiking/outdoors. As mentioned water is motherfucking heavy so carrying a lot isn't advised unless you won't be near sources.

I agree with this. If you have Iodine and a Nalgene or two AND have access to water  then I wouldn't carry any additional fluids other than what you start with in a ! liter sized Nalgene. Iodine is super reliable. I prefer it to other high tech gadgets like UV, NaCl+, or micron filter purification systems. Iodine tabs are super light and super small. They don't taste great, and they're cheap, and they work! Giardia is a hell of a lot worst, trust me on that one. It's not something you EVER want to experience.

Thanks for the advice. My pack only weighs 20 lbs, but this is just a simple hike that could be done in a day, but I'd like to camp so I'm going light. Now all I have to do is go to rei and rent a sleeping bag for $10 because the one I have is too bulky and heavy. I'd buy one if I could, but I'll have to wait till the next paycheck
