Jars not colonizing
#16842208 - 09/13/12 05:26 PM (12 years, 4 months ago) |

I've made a few threads about this in past, never got a response that seemed to help too much.
My pf jars are not colonizing. I've made 12 jars ever, only 2 inoculation points ever started colonizing. I am doing all the steps right, and the jars fail to show contamination after a month. I am starting to think it could be the syringes? I used the syringes from a reputable vender, with a date of creation 2 months prior to inoculation.
Opinions?

I would bet that your substrate is/was too wet.
I think the moisture content is the main key here to quick colonization. Also to not have the substrate packed too tight in there, they like it a little looser I think...
just a guess!

you're not doing all the steps quite right.
the tek calls for 4 inoculation points, this helps with colonization speed and GE

Not likely to be able to get that right if he's having problems with the PF Tek. He might not have a pressure cooker either.
Definitely gonna need more info on your set up

"What I call self-transforming machine elves.Sort of like jewelled basketballs all dribbling their way toward me. And if they'd had faces they would have been grinning, but they didn't have faces. And they assured me that they loved me and they told me not to be amazed; not to give way to astonishment. And so I watched them, even though I wondered if maybe I hadn't really done it this time, and what they were doing was they were making objects come into existence by singing them into existence."-Terence McKenna

Corn jars colonize faster cause there isnt nearly as much surface area as other grains. Unless i mis understand what a corn jar is but i assume you ment popcorn

I don't believe I am doing anything wrong, as the jars do not become contaminated, they just fail to colonize. The jar that did colonize from 1/4 of the points finished in about a month and I'm fruiting it now. I just dumped the other jars out yesterday cause they showed no growth whatsoever. The jars had a good 10 hour cool down after using a pot to steam them for 1.5 hours. I flame sterilized the needle, washing my hands before in a draft free room.
I think I'm just gonna give up this hobby for a while cause I'm quite paranoid about it
