Dolomite lime....did I mess up my straw?

So I guess I didn't do enough research about the correct type of lime to use (the lady at the nursery told me this shit was the same as hydrated lime so naturally I believed her)
Anyways....after soaking my straw in warm soapy water for 2 hrs I added a half a cup of Espoma Organic Garden Lime to about 6 gallons of 180 degree water and then added the straw to pasteurize for 60mins.
After doing some reading I've realized dolomite lime is really bad, but all of the reading I've done only refers to casings.
Since I used the lime in the straw soak can I still use the straw or should I throw it out and start over?

1/2 a cup of dolomite lime to 6 gallons of water doesn't sound sufficient to cause magnesium toxicity. I think you'll be OK to use the straw this time around.

In RR video, he says he uses the lime to raise the pH to "12-13 and it really seems to help the pasteurization process"
Do you think the dolomite lime helped with this as well?

No I don't. Dolomite lime is mainly calcium carbonate, which is a much weaker base than calcium hydroxide (hydrated lime). You really need to use calcium hydroxide here instead.

So then would my straw would not have been properly pasteurized then, right?
Cosmic Fool, don't be offended but I see you're new here, do you have much experience with this or is this just what you gather?

The lime isn't so much for pasteurization, as warding off contaminants during the colonization phase. You're not as secure without using it, though you may well get away with it. I'd recommend just getting the lime if you can though.

Nah, I'm not new at all actually.. I'm talking from experience. I started up here years back, but haven't been around the boards much for the last year or so. Decided to open up a new account here instead of go back to the old one.. (though I guess there's no reason really I couldn't just sign in to the old one). Anyway, just kinda wanted to start fresh, y'know?

Yea I feel ya, I guess I'll make these 3 monotubs in the morning and then go out and get the correct hydrated lime to make my next 2 tubs this weekend.

Does anybody else have any input? Should I use the straw or throw it out?

Straw is cheap. I never put an additive in when spawning to straw. Start and properly pasteurize a new batch if your worried.
I really don't know much about Dolomite Lime, from what I understand it's not that great or needed.

Was that the temperature throughout the process? Best to heat between 140-160.

Yes it was, at one point I had to add more boiling water bc the temp was down to 141 which then raised it up to 147

Good deal. Luckily you have a good bit of room for error. A range of 20 degree's
