NEA as a model for welfare.

There are people out there who get paid thousands of dollars per year to cover themselves with gravy and read poetry, or write experimentalist music. This is all done in the name of funding for the arts. To some it may seem rediculous to have taxes paying for performance art and music without notes, but what does welfare do?
It pays people to do nothing.
Wouldn't we be better off if we used the NEA model for welfare, and required recipients to dress up as platypusses in drag and dance for their checks?

I dunno about that. At least give these people their dignity.

both welfare and funding of the arts should be eliminated. I love art but not when i have to pay for it.

I'm willing to give them the option of doing something more dignified than the platypuss thing. Just as long as it's something origional.

I'd just as soon put them to work cleaning up litter along our nation's highways. I know it'll take jobs away from prisoners, but oh well.

I don't care if there's a Platypus or not but there definatly has to be a costume with a bill. A duck perhaps? Or some kind of bird.

Why not just give money to everyone? No strings attached, and no stigma, no conditions, no expensive administration, no excuses for the government to pry into people's lives.
The amount that everyone gets can be set at a level that still makes working for a living an attractive option. And for those who do, it will just look like a tax cut.
