Ez felt/stiffened felt RULES as a replacement for SFD synthetic filter discs

So stoked to get rid of the messy polyfill and change it up for these ez felt pieces
For those who have not seen it before... Ez felt or sometimes called stiffened felt comes in approx 8x11 sheets at most craft stores in many colors (avoid glitter) and from my research is a reusable/PCable/effective/safe replacement for SFD or polyfill. Cannot get SFD and polyfill is a pain, but with this circles can be cut and siliconed for GE holes..and in blues and blacks too to keep it extra awesome..fantastic
Any thoughts or experiences with these? I know some cultivators complained they need to sometimes double layer to get good results but many say they work great. If you ask me it appears the ones saying to double layer maybe got the normal non stiffened felt, because this stuff is nice and stiff almost like cardboard.
If any of you TCs think the 2x is neccessary it could work nice to silicone a circle on each side of the GE hole...but it not needed I think most would rather skip this extra step.

I'm no TC, but maybe you can get something from my opinion & experience anyway. I just posted the post below on somebody elses EZ felt thread the other day:

I actually don't think any contams were caused by a bad filter when things did contaminate, but rather a lapse in sterile technique.
I WILL say this though, I double layer my EZ-Felt. In other words, I cut two discs and stack them as one filter for each jar. Maybe that's why it works for me as well as it does.
My lid setup is four 7/64th inch holes in the metal lid. I then place my two discs on top of the metal lid, and then the ring for the mason jar over the whole setup...in other words, just like RR sets up his jars.
The reason I think it is absolutely necessary to double layer your EZ felt, aside from having experience that proved to me double layer was the way to go, is because if you hold it up to the light, you'll see some "thin" spots, and yes, I'm using the correct EZ felt (makes that sound when you "wobble it" because it's so thick).

Well based on your advice the best course should be to double em up then... I'm just worried about colonization time, any chance that could be restrictive for GE ?

I saw no difference whatsoever in colonization times, only decreased (to basically zero) contam rates.
Hold one layer over your mouth and lightly breath through it, then repeat with two layers. There is no discernible difference.
Granted, that is with "pressure" which is a force far greater than that exerted by gasses exchanging, but as I said, I saw no decrease in speed with two layers, only a decrease in contam rates.
It should be noted though, that my lid setup is different than what you said you intended on doing (silicone and what not). My setup is just a lid with four 7/64ths of an inch equidistant holes near the rim of the lid, two EZ-Felt discs on top of that, and then the ring over that and put on the jar. If you're just using one hole, maybe doubling up might affect things, but I highly doubt it.

Cool...siliconed a circle on both sides of the GE hole giving 2x protection. These had to be multi use lids so just made them all with 4 SHIPs and 1 GE hole
