A Contam Question

How does cobweb mold and green mold work ? I am new to cultivating but in my first grow i used a full pint jar, and at about 80% colonization it got green mold and cobweb mold...Does the mold spores sit dormant from the inoculation process or does the spore germinate a few days after it has got in the jar ?
any feedback appreciated Cheers.

It can work in any number of ways. Sometimes you get nothing but mold, other times it doesn't appear until later on. In your case it would seem the mushroom spores germinated first and the contaminants followed shortly after. Anything you might have done that may have introduced the contam to the jar part way through the grow?

Yes a number of things , no micro tape on the lid holes i removed them from an incubator i know i screw up alot of things but it is my first time, i still have 3 jars uncontaimated at 90% colonization im affraid there going to turn before i get the chance to fruit them

hm.. so you're saying your lids with left unfiltered? that'd definitely be your problem. next time around, it'd be a good idea to set up lids with a 1/4 inch hole in the middle, using either tyvek, micropore, or polyfill etc as filter material.
and no, 90% won't cut it. you need full colonization, plus a consolidation period ideally before fruiting. birthing an uncolonized substrate like that is a sure way to grow contams.

No i had a 1 inch dry layer that slowly got damp but not fully wet and thanks for the info regarding birthing mate.

The mold could show up anytime, even after full colonization. Usually though if it's there you'll see it before 90%.

i dunno man, sometimes, when my grains clump up below the jar, i scoop up the colonized grains and expand it to bigger subs... with no problem.

It is possible to birth them remove the uncolonized substrate but it would increase your chance of contamination and not reduce it. Depending on the circumstances even a damp verm layer isn't instant fail, it may not be completely damp or been damp long enough and it can dry out. And a having few contaminated jars doesn't always mean your other jars are doomed to the same fate.
