NO VERM, LOOKING TO MAKE CAKES. HELP.
    #16829321 - 09/11/12 02:27 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I have brown rice that I can grind into flower, I have dry corn I can grind into flower. I also have acorns/oak nuts, leaves decomposing into dirt which is already damp and some pine needles that are also starting to decompose into dirt.

Looking to make some kind of bed with the stuff I can find outside and the BR or the corn into some kind of cake to grow my mushrooms. I will be placing an order for some shroom spores soon need some advice.

Thanks

You can't make cakes without vermiculite. Full stop.
Using brown rice as spawn and casing it with potting soil, or mixing with coir or manure is possible without vermite.

Ok so I grind the brown rice into flour, drop the spores on the flour then cover it with soil?

Or should I mix the brown rice flour with corn four and then mixing it together with potting soil or just putting the soil on top of the flour.

(NOOB)

Don't grind anything. use whole grain rice. You have a lot more reading to do, research standard grain and bulk teks. If you are working with flour you have to use vermiculite, otherwise the flour will just get packed tightly and nothing will grow.
