what causes small mushrooms to grow? mushrooms come to full maturity, however very small. Lack of FAE?

could be both...
I'd imagine it has more to do with MS genetics. What's your FC look like?

Then it's not a standard SGFC. How do you expect us to help you when you've built your own method?

If the water content of the substrate is off, too dry or even too wet, you can get some tiny mushrooms.

Genetics are a possibility, as well as not following the SGFC tek.

Lack of FAE will cause long spindly stems, not underdeveloped ones.

I'm not always available to fan, so I had to improvise.

the SGFC is designed to be misted once every 12 hours.
i think you can manage that.
your issue is more than likely too much water.
due to your fogger.
but you didnt post pics, so im just guessing based on what you are describing.

well that's funny, cause most of the info on this site says to mist and fan multiple times daily, not just once.

dont take offense, but if you search more, you will find just as many people saying mist 2x a day, as there are saying mist 4x a day, and 0x a day.
there are people who will tell you brf cakes are a waste of time. there are people who will tell you everything different from what im telling you.
you can believe me or them, im just telling you how it can be done, and how i think you should do it.

i think you should mist more, rather than more often.
mushrooms love inconsistent moisture.

For best results. But you can fruit cakes and trays in a SGFC without fanning or misting. It works anyway, although fanning and misting will give you more and better flushes.
Also, small fruits are often the result of lack of water. So mist heavily, like koolaid already suggested.
