WTF?? wierd pinning behavior

got a good first flush... had high hopes for the second flush with a nice pinset and all. 5 days after the first flush it seems to be fizzling out and some of the pins are flattening out before growing. what is this from??

Crappy fruiting conditions. Possible lack of light, and the substrate looks really wet. You just mist?

no, there is a humidifier in there running on low. i fan it several times a day and a fan recirculates air every hour. stays between 90-100% RH.

Are you sure they are not from the last flush? Last time I grew cubes I noticed a lot of pins from the first flush opened up a few days after harvesting.

yes, all those pins were there after the first flush was harvested. but from what i have read i thought those were the pins for the next flush. even so.. why would they do this??

I said the substrate looks really wet, not dry. The humidifier is awful close, are you sure it's not leaving the substrate excessively damp?

What is your method of lighting.

65k bulb 12 on 12 off. the substrate does get a little wet sometimes, but then the humidifier is turned down and it drys out a little. it tends to swing back and forth diurnally as the temp flucuates slightly and the humidifier is adjusted.

I'd say from those pins, your substrate is saturated.

Is that perlite mixed into the casing layer?

I was misunderstood. From a search result I found that the caps opening early is a sign of low moisture content in the substrate or to high. How does the tub feel when lifted? Light or heavy as the day you put it into fruiting?

heavy, i think it is simply too moist from the humidifier. gonna change that a little to decrease the condensation on the surface.
yes, that is perlite.. verm and coir as well.

Wow, I would never use a coir, verm, perlite mixture as a substrate. That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I see that I have a lot of work over the next few months

Substrate is too saturated. I would cut the usage of the humidifier down a bit.

Have you soaked it since you harvested the previous mushrooms? Even with the surface being as wet as it is that's not going to replenish all the water used up already from the flush. It could be getting dehydrated.

I wouldnt say that it is too wet but. How long have you guys been using perlite in the substrate? Why isnt this thing cased?

People don't normally use perlite in a substrate.
