I did neither of those things but i can understand why you would feel that way.

(what i mean by real world is get a job for support and/or raise a family away from the confides of your parents house)

insult: your opinion is not valid until you're a grown up like me.

taking this a little personal there lil feller aren't ya?

insult: demeaning and belittling.

before your whine fest

insult: derogatory remarks about my post.

My god do you bore me.

insult: personal attatck

I'll reiterate, you have belittled and insulted.

ps. it's sensitive, not sensative.

and spare me your 'you must be sensitive' bit too.

I must have hit a nerve.

you have, my first post was an attempt to point out the
incendiary nature of your query, subconscious or otherwise.

It's laughable that you even try to defend yourself as being
purely empiracle when you follow up the question:

Do you think this forum represents the Real World? Are the views and ideologies proportionally to the modern world?

with a rant about how all the kiddies living at home and/or without
jobs or families somehow have invalid opinions because they have
yet to pay a mortgage buy diapers.

You don't know me at all, don't pretend. If you don't want to discuss the main topic feel free to not reply.

I may not know you, but I've read enough of your posts over the
years to have a pretty good idea of your MO.

I was trying to address the political ideals that you are so quick
to shirk in my original post. young, ideological beliefs are just
as valid as hardened realistic ones.

just because people have not been hardened by life as you have
and kept some semblance of their ideologies within their political
beliefs does not invalidate them or make their presence on this
board, or the larger world, any less important. especially not
less important relative to your stance.

how about this, here's a succcinct version of my thoughts:

1. following up the question with an invalidation of people's
beliefs because they haven't walked a mile in your shoes is
laughable. living at home or not, mortgage or not, the breadth
of viewpoints here is as varied as that in the outside world.
just because this is a site about drugs frequented by all sorts
of people doesn't seem to tilt the odds here to one extreme
or another.

2. I think that this site is largely representative of the types
of views out there. but as mentioned earlier, by the very
nature of the board and the forum itself, we don't see that
large population of apoliticals here.

3. you're a bitter man, it saddens me to see so little hope
and idealism in your politics. but that's what the rat race can
do to a man.

you're assuming again...it's a bad habit.  I never once said that any belief or continuation of such is validated or not.  You read too much into things.

the rest was not worth a response.  You assume that i'm some sort of hardened, bitter old man that hates life and all that it represents.  That couldn't be further from the truth.  I'm happy...very happy really, i've got a great job, a good education and everything that i want in life (except a Shelby Cobra which i will own one day).  The question was one of curiosity more than a debate issue.  There are many on this site who will run a poll with about 20 people responding and cast that as representitive of society, i laugh.  As for your thoughts on me personally i couldn't care less.  As long as you're offended, i'm happy too.

This isn't really directed at anyone in particular, but just because you whored yourself out a little to your allmighty version of reality, doesn't mean everyone else is required to be dragged down with you before they have reached the 'real world'.

since you didn't direct this to anyone in particular i have no way to answer it because i have never whored myself. But i will say that reality, though relative, is also pretty consistant. I asked the question because i was just curious as to what people think life (i know it's relative) will be etc..

Quote:

but are they not 'grown up' till they've reached where YOU and so many others are.

That's not what i asked (why is this question so disturbing to you guys?) There are many that are "grown up" before they leave their parents and there are others that make it through college or whatever without one iota of growth, it's a fact of life. I've seen many in my company that were spoon fed all they needed but when it came to independant thought, they were helpless. Being helpless in the "real world" (for the sake of argument) is normal, i was overwhelmed a bit so it's really nothing to be ashamed of and i guess you don't know until you're presented with life.

Quote:

How about this: You all are in a dream world under Big Brother's security. You haven't experienced the Real world until you are fending for yourself with no trillion $ army to protect you.

I don't fall for this kind of example. Wether you like it or not society couldn't careless if you succeed in this country or a third world country so try not to stretch this question into some sort of "we all live under our parents" argument.

Quote:

Don't judge others versions or reality as less than your own

This is directed at nobody either. Many need to stop assuming what's not being said. Not once was the question of "your life is worse than mine" If you impled it that is something you (you in general) have to deal with.

Quote:

I smell some pretty desperate attempts at justification here. Just a hunch, though

i'm not sure where you're going with this and since you didn't direct this to me in particular, i can't answer it because there is absolutly no justification in what i said or do.

>>>what i mean by real world is get a job for support and/or raise a family away from the confides of your parents house<<<

There is the flaw of this whole discussion. What you describe there fails to be an accurate description of "the real world"

>>>I don't fall for this kind of example. Wether you like it or not society couldn't careless if you succeed in this country or a third world country so try not to stretch this question into some sort of "we all live under our parents" argument.<<<

What you are not "falling for" is reality.

My ultimate answer to your question would be that people's views are defined largely by what they determine to be the "Real World". I find your concept of the real world to be deficient and far from complete.

really? How so? I only ask because i've only given examples of a couple characteristics of the real world. maybe if some of you ask me how i think of certain characteristics you may be surprised that my definition certainly does describe "Real" life. I will concede that it's all relative but there are some basics that usually need to be accomplished.

sure, personally, I don't know you, but how
predictable is the *online* you, c'mon.

this is such an innvertigo thread...

baited question leads to political arguments
which leads to line by line dissection of posts
under the defensive posture of original post's
'literal meaning'.

sprinkle liberally with passive aggressive attacks
under the guise of 'injecting a little humor' and
wrap it all up with a 'you bore me' segue to exit
stage left.

who pissed in your coffee today, anywho?

Hmm... I think we would have to more clearly define Left and Right as well.

>>>Do you think this forum represents the Real World? Are the views and ideologies proportionally to the modern world (i can only use America as a comparison so bare with me). <<<

I think I can answer this one if it were simplified to "Do you think this forum represents the views and ideologies in proportion to the American population as a whole?".

The first observation would be that the views of the vast majority of people who post in PA&L are more extreme than most Americans.

wasn't it Alex123 that mocked all of us for leaning right because we ate shrooms

No, but I thought it surprising that people take mushrooms and support George Bush. Don't you?

Do you think you'd get a positive response if you walked into the average room full of right-wing George Bush supporters and said "Hey guys, lets all go out and take mushrooms!!"?

I think you'd get a more positive response if you walked into the local anarchist group and said it. Maybe I'm wrong.
