Making the most of my cake.

I bought a mushroom grow kit (spore syringe, jars etc.) some time ago (I legally bought it from a high street shop in the UK, so it was at least 5 years ago). Anyway, it's not been particularly cared for in that time, so I wasn't very hopeful when I finally decided to mush cultivation a try.
Much to my surprise, I've now got a cake with mycellium growing! About 30%/40% coverage of the outer surface sides, and some growth on top. It's taken 17 days to get to this stage, so it's slow progress, but mushroom cultivation isn't a hobby for an adrenaline junky, so I don't mind.
Assuming I get a healthy cake in a few weeks, what would more experienced people recommend? My plan was to dunk the cake, then just fruit it as it is, sat on some moist perlite (as in the PFTek), and use a filter bag sealed with paper clips as a fruiting chamber. What I want to know is, is there a better way to treat my cake? I'm more interested in maintaining a good chance of some fruits than maximising yield (from one cake!). Once I have a few shrooms I can get spore prints and hopefully grow a few more.
Thank you for any advice or pointers in advance, and sorry if I'm asking questions that are already covered.
tl:dr - best way to ensure a single cake fruits to enable spore prints.

I would build a mini SGFC and as you say fruit it as a cake. Once 100% colonized. Allow it to consolidate for 1 week. When birthing, rinse the cake well. Dunk cake for 24 hours. Rinse well again. Roll in Vermiculite. Place in fruiting conditions (Your Fruiting Chamber).

A little less than that (~75 deg). It's not incubated, just kept in a warm dark place in the house.

Thanks, it's reassuring to hear a more experienced grower confirm my plans.

No need to leave it in the dark. Old outdated information.
That's a good temperature.

I never realised there was no need to keep things dark - thanks!
I've done a LOT of reading the past few weeks/months - glad to see some of it has sunk in
Thanks for the info
