200 quarts of spawn colonized
    #16827922 - 09/11/12 09:01 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Is monotubs my best bet? Was thinking of using the tubs that're about 3'x2'x2' or something... Any expert advice?

And how much Sub will I need for this many quarts of spawn

I gotta see pictures of this...

If I was you, I'd be picking up some square foot bags
of Vermiculite and a bunch of Coir Bricks.

Check out the Bulk Substrate Calculator in my signature.

I have no idea what your "best bet" is with that much spawn...that's...a lot...

As for how much sub, check this out:
http://SubstrateCalculator.info (it's in my sig along with a link to the original thread).

If your containers are 36" x 24" (3 feet by 2 feet) and you go with a substrate depth of 3 inches, and you use a spawn ratio of 1-to-1.24, you'll need 20 quarts of spawn to 24.85 quarts of bulk substrate for each tub....which means you could do ten of those tubs.

Type those figures into the sub calc. I just linked to, and then play around with your bulk substrate composition to see what kind of a massive undertaking you're looking at.

I wouldn't use a casing. Cubensis don't benefit
from them.

Is it aged manure? If so don't leach it.

Never mind the leaching.

Just be sure to properly pasteurize the manure.

It's up to your discretion. Is your spawn WBS?

For faster colonization do a small ratio. Such as
1:1 or 1:2. I would recommend a 1:3. You'll want
the substrate at least 3 inches in depth, 4 inches
for best results.

K cool a one to three is what is was going to do with four inch depth and it was organic rye berries soaked them twentyfour hours in gypsum water after rinsing till clean then brought to full boil and boiled ten mins then pressure cooked then g2ged them up x10

I didn't think your were supposed to boil. Only steep
How many busted gains do you have? I'd imagine a lot after full boil for 1O min

Yeah I see a lot of people say boil too .
You should only bring it to the boil, then reduce
the heat to a simmer for 10-15.

Maybe that's what he meant. I wouldn't think his spawn would fully colonize with all those busted grains.

Burst grains will cause slower colonization
and give a higher risk for contaminates. But
I've screwed up a few batches with a bunch,
and it reached 100%.

:picdidnthappen:

You have all of these jars colonized already? If so, why ask this question now? You should definitely have a gameplan ready before you start a project like this.

My advice would be to not make the substrate depth too deep in your tubs. Mycelium can generate quite a bit of heat while it colonizes and several tubs stacked with lots of substrate in them will be a hot box to contamville.
