Too funny. I was getting excited for pics also. A hundred pins is not above average. Most will stay dormant. Reminds me of the good ole days and my first attempt at growing

So from looking at the results you still say most of them were dormant? Im confused.
I need to get off my ass and get some agar AND order some more Africans. I should have stuck to those. I have a feeling this Brazilian sht isnt going to cut it. I was having problems growing at first, so I ordered ten or so random syringes just in case I had more trouble. Now I wish a had stuck to just a few strains. I cant wait to try pans. I inoculated my first grain jar three days ago, so we will see how that goes. Getting off to a slow start in the hobby because of living arrangements, but now Im set. Have a good sterile walk in closet now. I see good things in the future. I just dont know what Im going to do with all these shrooms! Bail em I guess. Could come in handy one day...who knows. I just know if I eat them all, I won't be able to spell anymore.

yeah, most pics stay dormant. Cakes/casings will generally have a massive pinset and then the mushrooms will grow from that. Old pins will pop up in the second third flush along with new pins that pop up. If you take a 1/2 cake that has gone through a correct pinning cycle, you will be able to counts 100's of knots and pins

That's a nice pull from cakes, although not rare I wouldn't say it's common either. You did a nice job at keeping things happy and you have been rewarded!

I dont know about the weight. I dont weigh anything. No reason to. When I go to eat them, I just put about a fist full down the old hatch. Now I would never do that with some of those Amsterdam Slams...but havent found anything like that over here yet. Havent done any cloning either. Just getting started. I'll know I have something good when I eat a fist full and then jump through a window or something. That's the way I do it.

cooler temps tend to produce thicker metier stems...while warmer temps contribute to hollow stems..

Using natural sunlight through a window. Probably higher than usual temp. Cant be over 80 though. I thought it was RR that said it was ok to colonize and fruit at the same temp.
What strain is that in the pic Notahacker420? Im guessing thats a result of some serious agar work.

Inderect sunlight rocks
Also in my experiences, any temperature say 76+ gives me hollow stipes. I try my damnedest to keep it between 70-75. I know it can be hard for some.

I think Ill do Golden Teacher cakes next. I guess potency is all genetics?...Or does the strain matter at all when it comes to cubes?

Genetics, a cube is a cube. Strains have the ability to be more or less potent based on genetics, but you'll never get sure results with a ms grow.

I believe a cube is a cube with the exception of gt. Those are the deepest bluing, most solid stemmed, bad ass cubes ever. And potent. Eq's are pretty but weak, b+ are awesome. But a cube is a cube in my book.

Yea I just grew some EQs and I was pissed. I dont expect these Brazilians to be much better. I'll do some GT cakes ASAP. I did Africans my second innoc. ever, and due to my error...yield was disgraceful. But the ones I did manage to grow out of that bunch were off the charts. I need to try those again. Im getting descent with cakes now so no worries about sht yields and other nonsense. Im just now moving to grains though...thought Id do cakes until I got it right before I tried everything else. Now it's time to go where no noob as ever gone before (not really) Anyone have similar experience with African strain?
ps. Thanks for the advice on strains. I purchased ten syringes that now I regret purchasing though. I really over anticipated error and just bought run of the mill stuff to experiment with beyond cakes. Guess it doesn't hurt to know now though.
