dmt always causes some more pronounced anxiety than other trips  i have come to accept it. try an easier on the head psychedelic like a phenethylamine if you want an easier ride

If you have done dmt a bunch of times and DONT get a little nervous beforehand, you didn't do enough.

moderation is a key, abuse any substance (even water) and you will have problems. Being nervous is not just a random side effect, it is your nervous system telling you to stop or slow down. Listen to your own body and let it rest. Ignore and pay the price for "exploration" you crave so much, it's your choice.

If no one has said it already, let me advise you on one thing.  CLEAN your piece with 5% white vinegar after every few times vaporizing DMT.  The DMT "residue" - if allowed to become a high percentage of your smoke - contains some seriously malevolent feeling oxides of DMT created by heat and oxygen exposure - which, while active, have a very unpleasant characteristic.

Hope this helps.

N.B.

Thank you NB. I honestly wasn't aware of this. It does seem to carry a lot of that unpleasant oxide body load that I have experienced before

thats not true, i've always been nervous before dmt because of the intensity, even my second time doing it, i'd hardly say twice is over doing it

i'm not really into it because it makes me super anxious beforehand, too. it's just so much so quick, and the onset makes me nervous. i prefer longer slowly increasing trips... maybe ayahuasca is more up my alley, im not sure...

even just the buzzing/ringing in the ear freaks me out a bit... and then if i stop moving and breathing and allow myself to be taken over i hear the rattling like a rattlesnake and then the whole visual trip becomes more solidified and apparent, but then i start to worry about my breathing, and my pulse... i can't tell if i'm okay or if i'm going to overheat

how is it not true though ? It's your body telling you not to do it.

Aside from Aya and Toad what sources can dmt be gathered from?  If this is one of those "don't ask don't tell" questions forgive me I'm a rookie.

Lets see if we can get back to helping the OP.  Yesterday, I posted THIS experience in the trip report sub-section:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16816628

Previously, however, I had also had a far more negative experience, documented HERE: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11218360#11218360

What can we take away from this???  First, CLEAN YOUR PIECE.  Second, take a good look at your DMT.  Is it white?  Eggshell colored?  Yellow?  A simple Bestine re-crystallization might clean up your oxidized DMT and eliminate that potential source of anxiety.

Lastly, as with ALL psychedelics - set and setting are paramount.  You must be confident going in that you are in a safe and secure physical place.  If it is pretty, well-lit, quiet and private, you are good to go.  Inside or outside doesn't matter so much as clean, quiet, well-lit and comfortable.  FWIW, I MUCH prefer outside, as objects indoors tend to have straight lines and right angles which look harsh and unnatural on DMT.

If your trip setting is clean and safe, you should already be in a comfortable head-space as well.  You should be tripping because you WANT TO, NOT simply because the opportunity presents itself.  Sometimes I go a month or more between trips, even though I have DMT available in small quantities at all times.

That brings me to my final point.  Learn to EXTRACT your own in very small quantities - between 300mg and 1 gram, and you will then have confidence that your product is genuine, clean, fresh, and pure.  Learn to do a re-crystallization for cleanup of any deeply yellow product.  Keep only the whitest powder and discard the yellow oils - and don't feel bad about it.

If you do some (or preferably ALL) of these things, the liklihood of a bad experience drops tremendously.  Doesn't go to zero, but it sure is an improvement.

One last thing:  EVERYBODY - and I mean EVERYBODY - gets pre-flight jitters.  I sure as hell do.  The question becomes, how do you deal with it???  Me, I'm a Buddhist.  I do my water offering, say my prayers, and meditate almost every day, so I'm practiced at meditation.  Sitting there ready to go, feeling anxious, is not the most wholesome state of mind to be in...but it is COMMON, and most importantly for me to tell you - NOT OUTCOME DETERMINATIVE.  What I mean by that is, just because you are nervous, doesn't mean it will be a negative experience.  Do your best to take a pause, several slow, deep breaths, and then take only ONE THOUGHT with you as you vaporize:  "SIMPLY OBSERVE."

Try to be a passive observer and accept what you see and hear...think of it like watching a movie in the theater.  It's just a show on a screen...and it cannot physically harm you.  Hope this helps.

N.B.

So dude across the room from me at Denny's looked like he was wondering if a dumb person could gather some different things and get a reaction, just like a random leaf here, some oak tree seeds there, or would it be more along the lines of something the nerd guy on the simpsons would have to do?

Great post, Nature Boy. So characteristic of the prolonged green hues in my recent, negative trips. Will be sure to clean out the pipe tonight. I think more so then just getting prepared for my actual trips I need to learn to channel some of my more recent negativity towards myself and life. I've been very stressed lately, angry, and have lost track of a lot of things important/true to me. If anything, those discomforting trips leave me with that idea. I just need to have a better understanding of what/how to change my current condition since its throwing me in a negative and dark rut.

a heroin addict doesnt get nervous before they shoot up and a crack head doesnt get nervou bfre they smoke crack yet it's terrible for them way worse than dmt. on the contrary people who abuse hard drugs often get excitement and relief when they are about to do their drug.  a bodys/minds response has nothing to do with it.
