Hey my man Keeno I have a question for you. Some of the Cyanofriscosa / Alleni rye spawn that I put onto egg cartons has turned blue. I am trying to figure out why... bluing is often a result of stress of some kind. The two stresses I thought of were dehydration and contamination.
RH is generally very high in there so that seems to be ruled out (but not completely as I misted heavily once and it seemed to help a bit)
I see some metabolites here and there but no obvious signs of bacteria (and I'm not quite sure how to recognize viruses at this stage).
Just wondering if you had any of your spawn turn blue on you after you put it on to egg cartons or wood chips?
Thanks for any response...

yeah I had some blueing (quite subtle)

I thought it was from the shock of being transferred, and also dehydration. it seems to be ok now after lots of misting, so fingers crossed yours will be ok soon mate

Thanks Keno My bluing is a bit stronger and seems to be persistent. Over all it is looking good though

Sure... the bluing doesn't look as dramatic in these photos but you can see it a bit. I'm probably over reacting. =)

Hi Keeno
Have you got any crop yet this year?. I'm waiting for my Azures to fruit. Have you got any suggestions how to increase chances for fruiting. I have found this table in Stamets book saying that Primordia formation for wood-loving species starts when temp. is 45-55°F (7-13°C) and during 10-14 days. Do you know what that means? Does it have to be in this temp. range for straight 10-15 days and nights?
Keep up great work. It was you who inspired me to make pots in the garden. Hope I will get them like yours.
Take Care.

It's still a tad to early for most of north America. Unless you are up in Alaska. Soon though! I would start showing concern if there is no action in a month

yeah ->
no sign of pins as yet, but to be honest, my beds haven't been all that good of a success this year. I'll have a look at them properly over the next couple of days, but I think compettiion from bacteria, other myc (poor sterilisation on my part) and possibly drying out a bit, has left the white pretty patchy in there. (I'll do a proper write up when I know more)
I just let them do their thing and come out when they're ready. It seems too early if you're in the UK, they come out after the first couple of nights where you go "arse it, I can smell winter in the air for reals. Summer's definitely over now!" A proper nip in the air, you know? so about October time not sure for Azur's though
chuffed to hear you were inspired by my TEK, I hope you ave more luck than me this year
