well the outdoor site surprised me!
the one I thought might have a chance of fruiting was just a few whisps of myc, and the 2nd one had fruits!
only a few and most had been chewed up but some were pretty big!

hopefully they'll carry on and the spores will travel far and wide

So just wanted to try and give these beauties life again this year. So I got back on the site, read the TEK, loads of others, heard the sad news about Roger Rabbit, got sad, had a cry, thought of loved ones, had a hug, got on with it, got a bit happier again.
*edit* I kinda rushed the description, and then figured that there's no point writing a TEK, if you don't do it meticulously and thoroughly, so I'm gonna put my relaxed writing head on and do it properly.
After I'd found all my old jars, and lids, I gave tem a proper wash, using bleach and boiling water. letting the mixture sit in the jars for 10 mins up to the rim, pouring out and washing the jars which were then placed upside down on fresh kitchen roll. after that I grabbed my 3 syringes (one had a little liquid left so I squeezed that onto an old dying tree stump in the back garden) and got a pan of water boiling fast. each syringe had boiling water sucked in, swilled about and pushed out 7 or 8 times. on the final fill, I flamed the end of the needle, pushed the plunger until a few jets of steam came out, which I directed into the needle cover, then replaced the cover and left the syringes to cool for 3 hours or so. Next I created the spore prints as follows: got a small box on it's side, which I cleaned out with lysol, then washed out 3 shot glasses with bleach/ boiling water as with the jars. squirted down the walls of the box with water, put in the shot glasses, covered with fresh tin foil and left for 30 mins with cover over the SAB. Had a shower and made sure to clean my teeth well. I have no idea if bad breath can disseminate bacteria, but no point chancing it eh? then I found 2 spores prints. One was from my 2013 harvest:

another was a Cyan print which I had won in a competition run by Mandrax360 (thanks again!)
so with a face mask on and my arms liberally covered in anti-bacterial rub, I set about creating the syringes. The Cyan print was on paper and with a freshly flamed and cooled scalpel blade (cooled with a drop of water from the syringe) I scraped it off into the shot glass, filled with the water from the syringe, swilled about and sucked it back up, flaming the needle before and after. did the same with the Alenii prints, with one having more of a scraping than the other as it was 20cc, not 10cc like the other two. and area about the size of my little fingernail was used for the larger one, about 2/3 for smaller ones.
once in and flamed, they were set aside in cool dark cupboard for about 36 hours whilst I prepped the jars
Using RR's rye grain TEK ( http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6936247#6936247 )
I washed the grains about 5 or 6 times, really working them around. The rye I had was very out of date (about 9 months after sell by date) but it looked ok, perhaps a little dusty... I thought I'd risk it. overcooked them a bit I think, gave them 10 mins on a good boil, a few bursters (10 or 15 individual grains perhaps viewable from the outside of the jars) I reckon that'd be fine... we'll see. I let it all dry for about 10 mins, flipping and stirring them up until they slid off a spoon without leaving much water behind (it was slightly damp, but not much) before filling the jars I used my butane flame (the type used for cooking, very good, 3" blue flame) to flame the inside of the jars, just to remove last of moisture and zap anything left in there... dunno if it helped but made me feel better filled the jars about 3/4 full, replaced the lids, and then pressure cooked them for 2hours 20 mins roughly. (my pressure cooked is 12.5psi, so I give it longer) once out, I let them sit and cool for 24 hours, then inoculated them in the SAB (after a shower and wearing a face mask, hands cleaned with anti-bac). Each jar got 1cc if standard jam jar sized, and 2-3cc in the bigger ones. I flamed the needle each time and wiped the innoc point on the lid with anti-back hand wash then directed the steam jet from the syringe onto it as well. I have no idea if the tiny steam jet helps clean it at all, but it seems a waste to not use the little jet. perhaps the silicon can handle the hot needle and that would be better way to kill any bacteria/ spores... feel free to chime in with your opinion
nocc'd them up Monday 2nd Feb, here's the pile of jars

today, Thurs 12th, I looked and they're going grand!

lots of action, can't guarantee this isn't all trich, but it's life
I had one jar that just wouldn't fit into the pressure cooker. so I thought I'd leave that as a tester... wow.

it's fucking rampant in there!
Wish I'd inoculated it with some Alenii to see how they fight against this onslaught... I'm not too worried about this jar, it's well sealed, and the grows are all outdoors and they seem to be more hardy towards contams...
anyways, excited to be back in the mycology world, and really would like to explore the relationship between plants and trees and how beneficial they are to each other. Would Alenii mycelium in perhaps a pot with an Acer in it, improve the health of the tree with increased nutrient exchange, increased water retention etc? I love the idea of a show of Autumn colours and beautiful little fungi growing out of the pot I'll give it a go with other flowers, roses, dahlias etc to see if they like living together as well

nothing in either of the cyan's yet my good man, so I'll give them another week, then maybe add another .5cc see if maybe they needed to soak for longer than 24 hours
 good to be back

cheers fella! should be interesting growing some amazing little beasties the myc does seem to be growing quicker than the first grow, I think they prefer Rye to the birdseed I used first time. we'll see

Indeed. Same thing was noted here. Same thing was noted with Psilo Cyans too.
Any grain will work, but in my opinion, rye is preferred by the mycelium over WBS.

nice one Ham Hope life's treating you well there?
Just a note (for myself as much as anything)
Still no life in the Cyanescens jars, so I nocced up another CC in each, and gave them a good shake around. The jars are still pretty sterile by the looks of things, nothing growing in there at all.
so I'm hoping the Cyanescen spores just needed more hydration time as they were on paper rather than tin foil...? we'll see

FEB 27th update
the jars are all coming along now, and so I'm just giving them a little while longer to consolidate (not sure if that's necessary), then I'm going to whack them onto the cardboard
the little jar looks like this now:

so I gave it a shake to see how it was in the middle, and it's white all the way through. so I'll give it a couple of days to recover, then whack it out into some eggbox heaven it's amazing how the myc is so wispy, but there are a couple of denser patches that are really solid white. I've picked up some woodchips that have been leached a few days and I'll sprinkle a bit of that in with the eggboxes. exciting times!

Hoping to follow in your footsteps thanks to the clear trail markers you are leaving for us all.. Just a quick question about the path - anything special about those egg cartons you are using in the next step? Just hop down to the shops and buy a dozen eggs in a paper carton, or did you get them in bulk online or ???

good stuff mate, lets hope your path is well lit and is not slippery with dog doo doo. or something, I dunno, not had my first coffee yet
so re: the boxes, I just saved them up over time and asked mates and popped into a couple of shops to see if they had any busted ones.
for this grow I've got some cardboard packaging that I'm going to quickly dunk in boiling water, then soak for an hour or so (I'll tear to see if it's fully soaked through)

but yeah, common or garden cardboard. they don't seem to mind any ink on the boxes, that I could see, and they ate all colours although I aimed for the plain grey ones
Also, someone was asking me about temps, which I'd say were about 50f-70f during the grain/ cardboard stage, then between 45f and 85f during the woodchip phase outside

few developments along the way:
I've birthed the small jar as it looked ready to go and I got a but excited with another project (I'll link to it here once I've done the writeup)

egg carton sprayed with bleach spray (then immediately washed off when I thought "It's gonna kill the myc you idiot!") and then soaked in tap water for an hour
loaded up with the grains and some woodchips (unknown wood, taken from allotment) and placed into a plastic bag left open
I could have got two cartons going, but didn't have one handy, so just thought I'd load it up

have another big chunk of cardboard packaging (as mentioned/ shown in the above post) that is now soaking and will be filled up with this:

one of the jars that looks ready to go. I have a bit of a time constraint as I'm going to be away for a bit, so trying to rush it a bit, which I know is wrong, but we'll see how it goes
cheers folks!

spot of cobweb mould there, hopefully that won't do too much damage

some Trych has got in. same as above. it's outnumbered, so hopefully the myc will over take it
