I hiked 4 hours all through Stover and Parke .. saw many weird n wonderfull! but nothing that I wanted to see even trudged all the sheep fields in the hope to find a liberty cap to put a smile on my face and even that come up with a blank! lol doh

I'm not quite as far south as you Wilf, but not far off really, so I doubt it'd make much difference. perhaps the difference was that I watered them through the really hot part of summer... and yeah we have had a bit of a parky few days, just a nip in the air you know?
that's a bummer about not having any finds mate, I have my fingers crossed for you. and you too Mandrax!
also, I'll be taking prints if anyone is interested?

Great thread keeno! Just got some woodlover prints through the post (thanks again M ) and I'm thinking of getting an Allenii grow on the go. However if it's not too late to start Ovoids for a potential Spring flush I may go with that instead...
I notice you seem to have got pretty great results without going agar...I'm a bit uncertain whether it is too great a risk innocing straight to grain? I haven't done agar work but maybe this is a good time to get off the ground with it

Also - would it not be better to innoc jars of sterilised grain / chips rather than straight grains seeing as prepped chips seem to colonise faster than grain?? Just wondering

you may well be right with the chips thing. Give it a try I'd say
If I were to do it again, I'd do 10 small jars with grains and get Lots of egg cartons so I can weed out the trych. I reckon I lost 20% to trych, but was just being cautious. I think it's such a virulent strain that once it's outside with plenty of fresh air and nice wood chips to chomp on, it'll shit all over the trych, and eat to it's hearts content, until it's time to fruit
give it a try though, I'm sure plenty of people will be happy to hear your results, including the great man himself! (cheers Rockefeller!!! )

Unfortunately all the Allenii plates I did just grew loads of trich...nothing I could seperate at all so it all ended up in the bin

don't know about plates, I'd love to give AGAR a go, but don't have a flow hood, or a house that isn't riddled with mould...

but one day I will, oh yes...

Yeh I meant agar - dunno why I refer to them as plates
I don't have a flow hood and my house is riddled with mold but I can do agar work fine. I blame the print

How do you do agar work fine without a flow hood in a house riddled with mold? I would blame the house

This species just eats up agar!!! Its a great one to start with, its almost fool proof!
I ended up getting probably the first P allenni fruits in British Columbia or Canada for that matter this year! It was so weird, they fruited later then my P azurescens. Then a deep freeze came and fucked everything up so I didnt end up with prints or bioassay specimens.

Keeno - Just wanted to say thank you for your impassioned tale of growing these little guys. Sure there is enough detail here to be a "Tek". However, what I read here is a well illustrated love story of discovery and enthusiasm for a successful grow. Beautiful - well done all around. PsioPsychIn
