Dried Rye Jars

I recently made seven rye jars and sterilised them by steaming them in a pot for 1 hr 20 mins. I've let them sit in a cupboard for a few days and now they look like they are drying out (tips of berries turning light brown etc). I was wondering how I could rehydrate the jars so that I can innoculate them, but also keep things sterile. For instance, could I add more water and steam them for another 40 minutes or so? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

you could always squirt a few cc's of sterilized water into the jars via syringe and shake them up and see if they are still too dry. plus if you are doing a MS inoculation then the spore juice will add some moisture to

Well I'm not doing a MS innoculation so I'll have to go with the sterilized water, that is of course unless anyone can give me a reason not to...

I've never used rye but I've heard a lot of horror stories, I'd say just try something else if you can afford to. Wild bird seed, popcorn..something else. -Mr.Sleep

Rye works perfect for me.
Shamanorrhea, don't worry if it looks a bit dry, it's only the outside of the jars. The spores will germinate, but it will take a bit longer, also a bit longer to colonize, but it will.
Also, that means that the jar has been very well sterilized, so it's sure that it won't contaminate. Just be patient.
