EEEK tiny black flying thing
    #1680263 - 07/02/03 12:01 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

so i was checkin on the growth of my little friends when i noticed this teeny tiny little black flying thingie toolin around inside my terrarium.
how the fuck did he get in there?

now he could have gotten swept in there whilst i was fanning.
that seems to be the most logical conclusion.

OR perhaps its a parasite!!! NOOOOO!!!

so far ive only seen ONE, but they are kinda hard to see, i would need to lift the lid off to really check if any are in there..

ive never ever ever had a bug in my terrarium before... this little mo'fo has invaded my private space.... i feel violated....

so what do yall think.. anyone ever have little tiny black flying thingies in their terrarium before? is this the beginning of the end? can i expect a swarm of little black flying thingies to swoop out of my terrarium and eat me alive???

or am i just over reacting and it was just a random bug that got swept in there?

if it is a parasite what can i do to exterminate the fuckers and make sure they never ever ever come back again?

thx for your help...

I hate bugs. I would check through there completely before I could call it safe. It could have laid eggs. Remember: It dosent take long before your precious crop become bug food!

One fruit fly is all it took to wipe out "all in one basket" first try years ago. A loose lid and the project never got off the ground. It looked much like an oil slick within days.

But look on the bright side, perhaps this little critter just dropped a little extra poo for ya

oh u have to be shitting me!!!
please god dont say that...
if that little creaton layed eggs im gonna fukin explode...

right now i got like 6 quarts of substrate pinning pre 1st flush... that would be well over an ounce of mushrooms gone to shit..... cuz of 1 teeny tiny little fuckin fly.
that little shit is probably still in the room somewhere, i can hear him mocking me...

oh well, im breaking noob rule number one... im worrying about things i cannot control...

if my shit gets infested, it gets infested..

if not then yay for me!

either way i have no control, so i might as well stop worrying.
but next time i will be sure to watch before i open the lid.

i have my moments, but they are usually due to sleep deprivation. today was one such case...
its getting to the point where i am seeing strange things floating around.
i dont want to go to sleep just yet, cuz then i may run the risk of waking up at 5 AM again....
i got one fuggin hour of sleep last night and just woke up for no goddamn reason. i hate my body sometimes...
well at least im gettin the most out of my 1 week vacation!

g-night

:shake: Not a good thing to get started. If they are small black tiny flies or gnats they will contaminate the casing really quick. I lost lots of trays last year due to not being fast enough to get rid of the first tray that went bad. I thought I had killed em...but they killed Me. :nonono:
If you see any more flying around, get yourself an outdoor patch setup quick!!! :frown:

OH, dont get me started on outdoor fuckin patches.... u wanna talk BUG problems.... more like mollusks.... Hmmmmph...
im trying to quit smokin, but i need one now or else im gonna go on a fuckin tirade.

its been a few days, and i havnt seen that little turd flying around, so i think im safe for now.... sad thing is i lost a 2quart caseing to green...
the entire bottem of the caseing was infested.. i wonder what went wrong.... i fear for my other caseings....

heres what i think happened..
i put a 2 liter of ice to cool things down in there.. it caused alot of condensation.. so much that humidity would drop down to like 80s...
perhaps the icey bottle caused condensation to form on the inside of the caseing?? it then pooled at the bottem and sprouted green death?>

who knows... i let my girlfriend do that casing so perhaps thats why..
i was watching her like a hawk, and i didnt see anything critical....

well 1 down 2 to go....

Those stupid black flying things are great at spreading their filthy contaminants to a casing layer. I recommend getting a spray bottle of 99% IPA (Isoprophyl alcohol) and spraying it (misting) all around the top of the container BEFORe you open it to mist/look. That way any nasties that are there (be they complex biological entities like black flying things, or simple ones like bacteria) get killed. Also, it's funny to spray bugs with IPA, stupid nasty varmints.

I suggested the outdoor patch thing to keep you from infecting any others you may have inside. Of course outdoors has its own bug/ slug/ cat and rat problems...but is better than the garbage pail for your previous hard work :nut:
