One bulb is fine. Is it a 6500k bulk?
Should be Daylight 6500k, wattage doesn't matter.

i found out they're both 2700k i think i'll keep using both lights its been working for me. when i use one light the opposite side doesn't receive very much. i'm going to try and get a 6500k bulb. do you guys think my shrooms would fruit better with only one? i have a 20 w and a 13 watt cfl.

Your shrooms will be much happier with a 6500k
The 2700k isn't doing much for them. Better than complete darkness I guess
Use two if you think it helps, but shrooms aren't like weed ... they don't need piercingly bright high wattage bulks. A low wattage (13w, 23W) 6500k is the next best thing to using natural sunlight.

I agree. Intensity of your lumens isn't so much as important. The proper type of light, as well as amount of light (12 hrs) is more important. I'd take one 6500k over your two 2700's.

I use natural light and haven't used a bulb for cultivation in over a year. But I still love the 6500k spectrum and I use them in rooms to really liven up the place lol

for artificial light, a small 13w 6500k cfl bulb is plenty.. if u can read in the light, its enough.. u dont need two lights bro

alright i think i'm going to try 1 bulb and alternate them from time to time. in the mean time before i get my 6500k. i know this is a tricky question but how much does the direction of the light matter. i have a pint cake that i just birthed and a half pint that started pinning a few days ago and has a couple 2inch shrooms but is still pinning because i had to birth it before it consolidated its hold on the substrate.... anyway what would you do put the light on the right side so the shroom clusters are getin direct light from cfl or on the other side so they're in the shadowy light. lol. my lid is white so i cant put it on the top

RR says putting it off to one side is best.
OP not to hijack your thread but does anyone know anything about those 453nm true-lumen led lights? The cfl has the full light spectrum with an emphasis on the blue. The 453nm led is just blue and not the whole spectrum.
I saw one used for the new Mexican strain but he doesn't say if that is all he used or if he also uses the 6500k cfl.

i also wondered how LED lights would fair. i got a red/blue led panel. also i heard of people putting red lights in a grow room for cannabis during the dark cycle to mimick the light reflecting off the moon. i am curious to see if you could do that with shrooms and if it would have a positive effect.

My guess is: Higher electric bill. Shrooms aren't photosynthetic like cannabis.

ive heard that with mushrooms, the bluer the better.. but im not sure about LEDs. the red light doubt it would have any benefit for mushrooms. led light fixtures are usually the most energy efficient. but i believe that 6500k CFLs are closer to natural sunlight and i think that should be the main goal.. cant hurt to give the true blue a try though..

so whats the point of the light? to trigger pinning and growth direction?

Its been proven that mushrooms benefit from a light cycle of 12/12 from inoculation to picking. You wanna use cfl 6500k temp. Reason we use cfl is that they dont produce the heat/dry out the air.

Light helps the mycelium establish a circadian rhythm.

If grow in darkness mushrooms grow opposite gravity. Light keeps caps from being so small. It is one of the pinning triggers but not at the top of the list.
I thought I read somewhere that mushrooms absorb light to use as energy.
Mushrooms do like blue light
LED works good. RR uses them as do several others.

Clearly light aids mushies. Just said it's not dependant on it the way a photosynthetic organism is. You need clorophyll to be photsynthetic, mushies dont have it.

I know they aren't plants and don't use light like plants ... but I know I read somewhere that mushrooms absorb light mostly through their stipes and do something with it.

Perhaps the article was about the Jack-O-Lantern mushroom that glows in the dark?

No ... it was general discussion on the life cycle of mushrooms, although the glowy ones are fuckin' awesome. I'm pretty sure it was a post on here that RR made explaining the life and processes of mycelium and stuff. I know its kinda vague but I don't remember much about it ... just that they absorb light through the stipes which is why it's better to have a light on the side rather than directly above.
