Ok so now....
    #16803673 - 09/07/12 08:11 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I realize now that using regular mouthed half pint jars and the BRF method with my oysters was a mistake. But I've got 12 nice jars ready to be dunked. Some have suggested breaking the jars which I do not care to do others say to use straw which I think is the best idea. But since it is not rye berries will I have trouble getting things going or is that even an issue? Should I maybe see if I could do like a grain to grain deal and see if I can get it going again on the rye berries then use RR's straw tek? Does this sound too much for a novice to handle? Thanks again for any advice you may have.

You can definitely break the jars to get your cakes but if you do not want to go that way with things than perhaps you can try to use agar medium, just scrape some of the mycelium off you jars and transfer it to your agar plates. then transfer the rizomorphic mycelium to some grain jars. I don't know though that just an idea

you could always fruit them from inside the jars... although it will likely decrease yields dramatically

other then that there isn't a whole lot of options other then breaking or agar... brf dosent break up very easily and u risk contams by doing so with a utensil.. otherwise you could just scramble it all up and use it to colonize a mono... but, unfortunately it would have a extremely high contam chance due to the fact that the spawn needs broken up manually so to speak.

Maybe try digging them out and spawning to a bulk substrate.

The regular mouth jars are like this

I can't imagine there's any way to get a cake out without breaking it into pieces, which wouldn't exactly be the end of world. You could put the pieces in trays after that and fruit in those. They might even grow back together.

I suppose you could break the jars but the glass is thick I doubt it'd be easy and yeah there's the whole thing with bits of glass getting everywhere.

In half pints those are considered Regular Mouth. Maybe he's using Jelly
Jar's or the wrong size jars?

$1.29 a piece for quart jars at hobby lobby  x12 = $15
a case of 12 at albertsons (only place locally available) is roughly $18

Is that irony? I never use irony right

I would break the glass. Straw is hard to get right. Jars are cheap.just wrap it up in a towel, so as not to get cut.
