Keeping an opened bag of vermiculite from being contaminated?

So I'm just starting my first grow and I'm wondering how I keep my vermiculite from inviting contaminants considering the bag is not resealable? I had to leave with haste last night so I just put the bag in a garbage bag, tied it up and put some tape over the hole to prevent any from spilling out. Do you think I may have ruined it?
I know I need to steam sterilize the BRF mixture anyway but what I'm worried about is the dry layer you are meant to put on the top 1/2 inch of the jar

"What I call self-transforming machine elves.Sort of like jewelled basketballs all dribbling their way toward me. And if they'd had faces they would have been grinning, but they didn't have faces. And they assured me that they loved me and they told me not to be amazed; not to give way to astonishment. And so I watched them, even though I wondered if maybe I hadn't really done it this time, and what they were doing was they were making objects come into existence by singing them into existence."-Terence McKenna

All verm going in your brf mixture needs to be steamed or PC'ed. So that doesn't matter. Now if you are worried about dirty verm for a dunk and roll or somethin, throw in your oven for an hour at 250 to 300.

That's total overkill. Fully colonized cakes are almost completely contam resistant. There is no need whatsoever to back Vermiculite for a roll.
But yes, if your that worried you could waste your time/effort and put it in the oven.

I agree I never do. But that's what paranoid people do. And this guy seems worried.

Ya people say that but If a piece of nutritious material, such as a small fleck of WBS, got into your bag and you rolled it on your cake you could end up with trich or something. I bake for 20 min at 350 degrees and let cool in over overnight. I do all my hobbywork first thing in the morning after a fresh shower
That being said it IS being incredibly anal
Also theres no need at all to seal up your verm and what not.

Best answer EVER!

Yeah I don't keep my vermiculite sealed. No point. It gets sterilized with the substrate. And unless Quote:

this scenario plays out. I really don't think I'd sterilize for the roll.

I just leave my bag of verm open sitting on a shelf in my garage.
Never had a problem with contams. Just make sure your inoculation procedure is sterile and you're steam sterilizing your jars properly and you'll be fine.
