COOLING advice
    #16805838 - 09/07/12 03:24 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

My swamp cooler's motor went out today and now my home is about 87f!!!
I just spawned all my BRF jars to coco coir yesterday. I won't be able to dish out the dollars for the new motor for at least a week.

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO??????????

you can keep em in fridge.  or just let em ride,  if your confident in your sterile procedures

They'll still colonize at that temp, the risk of contamination just increases.  If you followed proper pasteurization procedure, you'll probably be ok.

87 isnt so bad. find a cool spot in your house, draw all the curtains in a room and put it under a bed or something. if u can get it under 85ish youll make it, i let my house sit at 84 when im colonizing. gets to about 110 outside in the summer lol

edit- get a little thermometer and literally find the coolest spot in your house

Just went to the store (family of three) no room in the fridge. hence the lack of funds.
How hot can they get before they will DIE?

i wouldnt worry about them dying as much as stalling out or contamming from higher temps for longer periods of time.

im sure they will be fine, myc is some tough stuff

The have to get into the triple digits before thermal death gets them.  Remember that a triple digit air temperature does not necessarily mean you'll have a triple digit substrate temperature.

Looks like the bath tub is the coolest spot.  However it is also the worst place for contamination.

Think I will just let them ride it out.  when I can get things fixed should I bring the temp down slowly or just run the swamper on high.  Is a cold shock around 70F or just a 10F drop?

I don't think that a fast temperature drop would help/harm the mycelium at all.  Just try to get the temperature back down as soon as you can.

Use it as an excuse to hang around the local bar!  Just fine someone too drunk to know what they're doing, then convince them that the beer they're drinking is actually yours, and that they should buy you a replacement

Use that to your advantage!  If they know you, you know them, get your "best friend" to buy you a few rounds

You would be surprised how many of them are unemployed drunks.  Best thing is we look after each other.  unless it comes between our habits.  Liqueur can have have a mighty hold on your life.

Younger viewer take note, alchole sucks, it is a driving factor in your life forever
