Food Storage Containers in a Pressure Cooker?
    #16803722 - 09/07/12 08:36 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I was wondering if the Publix brand Food Storage Containers would withstand the pressure cooker? Seems like an easy way to get my casing sterilized, since after my first casing flush, both fell ill to trich.

look for "pp5" inside of the recycle arrows. if it doesn't say that it'll melt (probably)

Fortunately they do, so does that mean it's a safe bet?

yep if there is a pp5 youre good. make sure it doesnt touch side or bottom of the pc, so lay a rag down in the pc. and make sure that your lids have some sort of way to breath. Explosions inside the pc are both scary and messy

Thank you very much. Should the lid be slightly open, or should I just poke a few holes in it?

I would poke a hole, and then cover with micropore tape. Make sure that the pc cools down slowly or you'll suck a bunch of air into the container and defeat the entire process

Cubes don't really need a casing. If you use just plain verm it can act as a casing in that it keeps the humidity levels perfect at the surface of the substrate. I would only recommend this for non-mono tubs, or if you have to leave your mono for 2-3 days.

I've tried casing and not casing and the only difference was that I felt better about misting the casing rather than the substrate directly lol
