Dehydrator problems
    #16801470 - 09/06/12 08:37 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Hey folks. So, yesterday my dehydrator just stopped working mid cycle. The power is still getting to it, but there is no sound, heat, or anything happening when it's turned on. Any thoughts? I paid like $45 for it new at wal mart little more than a year ago. Can it be fixed easily? Is it worth it, or should I buy a new one tomorrow? Thanks :tipofthecap:

How do you know that power is still going to it if nothing is working on it? have you tried plugging it into a different outlet? I'm sure you have but I thought I would ask anyways. that's the problem with Walmart stuff not all the products there are cheaply made but most of them are unfortunately the work for a short period of time and then crap out that's just been my experience with them. But usually the labor and time that goes into fixing it would not be worth it you're better off buying another cheap one and in a year or so buy another one or you can invest in a better one if your finances allow.

If you're going to invest in a new one, I recommend a Nesco.  I loved mine before it was taken away.

Because the light on the switch comes on.... :bigyesnod:

Ya, I figured I'd be buying a new one tomorrow, but thought I'd post and see if any of these clever drug addicts around here had a brilliant idea.

Thanks

The Nesco was $95 at Ace Hardware.

I had a psychotic break and had to be put on suicide watch for a short time.  All of my cultivation equipment was seized by the special crimes unit.  The only reason I wasn't charged is because I actively sought psychiatric treatment before they showed up, and agreed to destroy what they left under their supervision.  I was extremely lucky.

The "Mindset, Setting, Dose:  When It All Goes Wrong" post linked in my signature will give you all the details.

Hm.. hardware stores are usually quite a bit more expensive. I'll look into that brand though. Thanks, and sorry about your situation. That must have been pretty shitty.

Are you familiar at all with electronics repair or wiring? If it were me, I'd be on google looking up wiring diagrams or repair tutorials (you'd be surprised what you can find), taking the thing apart, and breaking out the multimeter. Is it still producing heat? If any of the components burned out, like the fan, you'll probably be better off getting a new one.

I took my walmart dehydrator apart to look around and it seems rather simple in there, but if you've never worked on any wiring before it may be a bit of a challenge.

Dont go tearing up your dehydrator if you have no electrical experience.  You could screw it up and cause the heater to stay on till it catches fire.  worst case but it could happen.

Ya, I'm just gonna get a new one I guess. I mean, no fan, no heat....  it does seem unsafe to fuck with something like that. Thanks guys
