Picked up a case of pericarditis. Think these guys here could have caused it? I was dumb enough to take the advice of some forum posts here in regard to smelling for contams. Through the filter of course, but still.

Unless there's a hole in the filter it shouldn't matter, no contams could get out to inhale.

Okay well regardless I have started a couple more jars and they look to be problematic as well. Not sure though. The first pictures I posted were a couple of weeks after inoculation at least 2 maybe 3. I had basically given up hope on the whole batch when I spotted the one jar with cobweb. That was out of a group of about 10 jars, with the 1 getting cobweb as pictured and the others doing nothing at all. I completely threw out the cobweb jar and simply rinsed the other jars out with water before reloading with prepared grain and then PCing. Is that correct procedure considering they are going to be PCed anyways? This time I have prepared a modest 3 jars. After 7 days this is what I am looking at.

Whatever it is, it is definitely growing in line with where I injected the new ms syringe. Out of curiosity I shook one of the jars which had a bright white fuzz sticking out at the top of the grains and found a 2 inch rock like clump of grain/white mass (not like what is pictured here). So I am not sure what is going on here, looks somewhat similar to the previous contam but there are also differences. Just looking to see if I am on the right track here or I just have even stronger cobweb now.

That's only 7 days after inoculation with spores? I would expect very little growth after only 7 days, more like the 2 inch clump you described.

So any idea what it is Kizzle? Or should I just wait and see. The jar with the clump isn't pictured here at all and doesn't show any growth near the glass, which is why I shook it to see. I can prolly snap a pic later. I am wanting to start some more jars but I would like to try and figure out what's going on first.

I don't know. There are a lot of fungi that look like that. I've even seen mycelium that looks similar but it looks like it's turning into whatever what in your last batch. You could observe it for a while, see how fast it grows and how it develops just to make sure your not tossing out mycelium. I'm assuming you're trying to grow cubes, other mushrooms can have different looking myc.

Yes they are cubes. Any recommendations for putting a stop to this? I am not sure where I am going wrong here. How is the cobweb appearing in the jar after having been pressure cooked and never opened since? Do I need to clean my reused jars better? Thanks for all the help.

No you were right, there's no way mold is going survive a trip through the PC. It's almost always from contaminated spores or on the needle during the inoculation so the solution is using different spores or improving your sterile procedure. The needle touching something after flaming, including wiping it off with alcohol, or leaving an inoculation hole uncovered and exposed to air outside a glovebox are a couple ways you could introduce mold during the inoculation.

Well the growth rate isn't crazy fast as of right now. The jar that I didn't take a picture of has recovered from me shaking it about 2 days ago and has started to take a grip on surrounding grains. I went ahead and shook the pictured jars to see what things looked like on the inside. Turns out they look just like the white clumps I had seen in the other jar and growth just happened to be along the glass instead of in a ball. I'm starting to feel like maybe this is mycelium as I don't imagine cobweb grows into a solid mass like this?

Did you soak your grain 24 hours before PC? Some bad stuff can survive the PC. Cobweb is one of them!

It's unlikely it's cobweb but there are plenty of molds that look like it, it's probably one of those. It's also possible there's both mushroom mycelium and mold growing together in there.
This is one though looks like it could just be mycelium, not sure if that was the jar you were talking about.

I will take some more pictures tomorrow of the jar that isn't shown here. Also I did soak for 24 hours when preparing my grain.
