boiling geolite

Would geolite need to be boiled just as perilite would be before using it? sorry for the newb question

no Geolite (or Hydroton) does NOT need any sterilization before being used....I would clean it after your done with it so that you could reuse it, but to start off with....no, no sterilization is needed.

I learned yesterday that Hydroton is disty as hell. Poor it in your container outside. Had I thought about it I would have rinsed it before putting it in the container. One way to rinse stuff that works pretty well, is to put it in a 5 gal. bucket. Then stick a hose in there and let it rinse all the dusty crap away. I do this with new aquarium gravel, and it makes a big difference in the water clarity. It probably does not matter as much for this purpose.
