finally! but then... (A sad story, with pics) UPDATED!!
    #1677038 - 07/01/03 01:17 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

A man decides that he will go to a field nearby at 5 am and see what he can see. He sees a lot! He finds what he is pretty sure is some Psilocybe cubensis. So he picks a few samples of different stages to show his friend, who is an amateur mycologist. When he brings them to her house, she gets all excited, dances around gleefully, and proclaims, "FINALLY! We have found some CUBES!!"

So they both decide to venture out to the field, and collect the rest of the treasure. It's about 1:30 pm, the day is drizzly, and as they walk past the cop's house, they wave nonchalantly. Theirs is a happy mood, full of nervous anticipation...
Stepping through the barbed wire has never been so frustrating, they wrestle with it for some moments until they are both in the pasture, eyes shining with excitement, they start to part the tall grass. He finds one mushroom that had fallen out of his bag the night before.
They continue to search, until one of them notices something unusual. A plastic grocery bag, lying on the ground. Oh no.
"OH NO!" the amateur mycologist cries, as she realizes that a car is driving down the long driveway. It's the old lady who lives in the house at the end of the dirt road! She is almost upon them before the friend sees the Oldsmobile, and joins her on the ground, panting, eyes wide...
Walking back down the road, towards home, the amateur mycologist decides to get her camera out just in case the old lady comes back. As soon as she zips the case shut, the silver Oldsmobile turns the corner and starts driving slowly towards them, the automatic window moving down, and the pasty, spider-veined face of an old woman peered at them through wary, indignant, and somewhat rheumy eyes.
She demands, in a shaky southern drawl, to know just what they are doing on her property. They explain that they are just taking pictures, and when she enquires "Of what?" the amateur mycologist offers to show her. She looks at the camera doubtfully and says, "I would appreciate if you wouldn't." The am. myc. apologizes for trespassing and starts to head away, only to notice that her friend is still standing there, repeating over and over to the increasingly frightened old woman that they were "Just taking some pictures...with her new camera...we thought this was just a dirt road...we're just taking some pictures..." oh no! he is so nervous he can't STOP TALKING!! the am. myc. has to physically tear him away, and even then he just keeps babbling about how he was just explaining to her that they were taking some pictures. They are both very scared, and they still have to walk home, past the cop's house.
When they pass by, the friend resumes his babbling, and glances over at the cop sitting on his front porch repeatedly. He is talking very fast, in a hushed voice, and he is making the am. myc so nervous she wants to punch him! So she tells him to shut up and quit walking so god damned fast and to just CHILL OUT. She waves at her policeman neighbor and strolls down the street.
They finally reach home, defeated. After all that, the mushrooms had been picked by someone else before they could get there.

But on the bright side, they did pick up a cow patty with a ton of pins and mycelium, so it wasn't a total loss!  :smirk:

THE END

If you don't mind me asking, what part of GA are you in? Lets call from the Fla boarder to macon southern GA, and macon to ATL middle GA, and ATL and above northern GA. Whereabouts are you finding cubes at?

Ummm.... Actually it was more like the 15th run... that's what the "finally" in the title referred to.

yeah, upload your pictures to a host (montypics.com, etc...) and copy the location from where the image is hosted. insert it between the two image [img] tags..

{img}http://www.picturehost.com/directory/blahbla/image.jpg{/img}
instead of using the { use the [ brackets.
