Bluing knots, Sclerotia? OakRidge cake

Inoculated a wide mouth pint with Oakridge from prints I put into syringes. Temps are around 73-75, RH is always 100% according to my hygrometer. I do mist daily when the cake seems "dry". Started noticing the white mycelium doing weird stuff on top of the cake but let her ride. Now it's formed knots that just blued after misting. To me it seems like I could almost pick them off and go for a dunk and roll. Pinset seems ok near the bottom. What is this stuff?

Ha! Cool. I can wait, no worries. I was almost thinking it resembled sclerotia and thought about picking em off and keeping them for a trail mix or something

I've never had Oak Ridge form blobs like that. And I fruit them quite often, potent little bastards.

well, these prints were about 3 years old, I'm not experienced with the vitality or effects of using older prints, does it matter? These knots are fleshy and hard, not "blobby" per say. Just figured it was extremely rhizomorphic overlay or something, but then they tanned a bit and started bruising.

Guess they were just sclerotia. Removed them and ate with first 35 grams. Very nice!

Geez. I cant believe you have so many replies and not real answers. It is not primordia and def not sclerotia. ITs a common retardation , I cant think of the correct word, of most cube species. Some do it more than other. It might be promoted by chems, it is not rosebud. I am pretty sure its not a humidity thing. It might be a vigor thing. Although those chunks are completely edible. They are fungus fruit bodies. Just mutants, thats the word I was looking for. Dry them, eat them, they are safe and will have the same potency. Do not clone them, although i am not positive if they will only produce that type of fruit if cloned.

I would bet they produce regular mushroom if cloned, I don't think they are actual mutants. Seems to happen more with certain strains and if you don't allow the substrate to consolidate before fruiting.

Thanks! The top of the jar hadn't had a chance to consolidate yet before I birthed. Only because it was pinning in the jar, so I went for it. They tasted good though

I think I'm addicted to this mycology thing! This is only my second grow but both grows have been a success. Now if I could just get these weilii prints to work out for me. I printed wild ones, so I've been told I'll have to clean them up on agar. No time like the present, thanks again for all the input guys.

Oh it is addicting. Just wait until you are waling around and introducing new species to new areas. I am responsible for introducing a ps species to the central valley. Now that is addiction
