civil is right about gt's, those babies hold on for dear life. funny, that strain did make me a scissor and razor man. i twisted and pulled an entire corner off, removing a baseball sized chunk. cutting leaves the surface cleaner looking, and i remove th sub stuck to the harvested shrooms with a knife anyway, so it saves some time.sorta.

PB, z-strain also like to hold on for dear life.  The z-strain was the most interesting since yuo would twist and pull and it would look almost like a tap root would be on the bottom.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed how terrible and difficult it is to twist and pull GTs.

I had a great first flush with some cakes and, out of sheer laziness, I pulled them all as gingerly as possible. Dunked and the second flush didn't pin for over a week, and barely at that. I usually cut them, and now that I have experienced the difference in results I will continue to do so.

Also, I fucking hate cleaning sub off stems. I ended up cutting the damn things anyway.

why cut at the base and leave nasty fruit bottoms to rot on your stuff?  twist carefully, the pull till removed.. problem solved.

running 4 strains, including golden teacher.. and no idea what that dudes freakn out about lol.

some people just argue to argue.

Those "nasty rotting stumps" become the healthyest part of your sub in about 2 days. Not to mention, they DON'T rot.... It is the exact same mycelium as the res of the substrate. It will not rot. Thirdly, if you twist and pull, you WILL pull up small pins on future flushes. If you cet em down, these pins poke throught the stump, and will grow up healthy.

I would just like to thank everyone for contributing to this thread, it helped me immensely!

I started my first monotubs (started two at a time to use all my spawn), they were spawned about a week apart.

The first got tore to shit because I had no idea that GT were notorious for shredding substrate when you attempt to twist and pull, and I'm wondering if it's even going to give me a second flush.

The second tub, thanks to reading this perfectly timed thread, was harvested using a razor blade and looks immaculate!  The substrate is still white and healthy with little stumps, rather than mangled and excreting some orange discharge.

In conclusion, I should be expecting another one or two healthy flushes from my second mono, thanks to this information!

Good vibes everyone.

yes, Expect another 2 flushes from your cut down mono, And expect them to show up faster then if you twist-n-pull. When you twist and pull, You pull up future flushes. This doesnt happen when you cut em down, Thus, future flushes pin, and grow faster then twisting and pulling
