I have pretty big hands too....they are 8 inches from base of palm to middle finger tip and about a 10 inch span from pinky tip to thumb tip.
The Transkei are one of my new favorites. They are very white which allows any bruising to be very apparent. They do adhere to the casing a bit more than I'd like, but I suppose that makes nice straight shrooms. They stand tall and proud!

Nice! Is there any think you can add to your casing layer to make it stronger(Using 60/40)? Lately all of my shrooms have fallen over by veil break. I was thinking I might have added a little too much oyster shell (Any thoughts on This?) You have some great logs goin on and im suprized you find time to post them all. Very nice work!

More coir may add to a stronger casing surface. I think the issue has a lot more to do with fruiting characteristics and pin set than anything else IMO. If you have 4 fruits growing, they are going to be large. Regardless of casing ingredients the shrooms are likely too large to support themselves. Some strains seem to attach loosely to the casing surface while others are tenaciously attached. The better attached strains, such as Transkei, are more likely to stand tall. A wet casing layer also provides poor structure.
In all, I don't think altering your current mix will have a noticable effect on the ability of mushrooms to grow tall or to lay over...I'm probably wrong though. It shouldn't hurt to experiment.

u should cut that in 1/3's or 1/2's and case. more surface area to grow off of.

Everyone wants a piece of the cake.
Cutting that cake up would be a big mess! As you increase the surface area, you decrease the volume of substrate available to fruit from. You also increase the area required for fruiting. I prefer to have several large fruits than many smaller fruits.
I will consider your idea, thank you. Perhaps I will sprinkle some casing on the top of the cake...like frosting

Both buckets are now in my compost bin.
The cake didn't work too well. My conditions were not ideal and are likely at fault. At least I got one good fruit from it.
Here's a final pic from bucket "A". Talk about a mess!
Thank you all for connecting to my grow log!

I can't recall exactly, but I usually spawn approximately 1qt/1-2 gal.
