Anonymously Buying Precious Metals
    #16791860 - 09/05/12 10:46 AM (11 years, 4 months ago)

Can you buy silver in cash without being carded or having to join a membership somewhere?

Say you just want to spend in the 5k to 10k range.

And it doesnt have to be all at one time, it could be 10 separate 1k purchases that total up to 10k.

I was looking on APMEX but i think i'd have to have somebody else buy it for me and have it shipped to their house.

Yum.

Many buy at a local coin shop, just a cash transaction. Some even trade gold for silver, or silver for gold, no paper work at all.

$10,000 or more cash or cash equivalents generates a suspicious activity report. If you want to buy more than that use a bank wire. Even an overseas account wire won't generate suspicion like a wheelbarrow full of cash. And for the love of god don't think you can do ten $4,000 transactions instead because that's structuring and even more suspicious. Just read up on SARs and what generates them and use your head.

Gun shows... There are dudes at gun shows that are 100% cash and carry.  Usually they have coins but sometimes ingots.

pawn shops are a great place for cash and carry,

you can usually get a pretty good deal on older coins that are 90% silver like morgan silver dollars or peace dollars.

the upside of having these, is that in addition to their silver value, if society goes to hell in a hand basket, these things are a HELL of a lot easier to trade for goods and services than a 100OZ brick.

really, what good would a brick of silver do you if you just needed a few loaves of bread?

Use it like an anvil and drop it on the bakers head. Take the bread.

to add to that, many industries that are popular for money laundering (this would be one of them) have to go through anti-money laundering training and have procedures that you have to go through if someone makes certain transactions, if a pawn shop doesn't make you show your ID, then do it that way, and then you can turn around and sell it on ebay, open a paypal account, and transfer it to your bank account.  Your money is officially laundered, because from here on out, it's not suspicious when it comes from your bank account.

local coin/bullion store if you want to be anonymous. i think you would get the best deal through an online vendor like APMEX. some silver vendors charge wayy over spot which can be annoying
... credit susse im looking at you.
Also think about your investing goals. in my experience physical silver is a giant pain in the ass and is not a great investment, it more of a hedge on inflation. if you want to sell your silver you have to haul it somewhere or ship it back to an online vendor.
I realize that you want to stay anonymous, but if you opened an account with a broker you can buy silver stocks. this is what i do when i think silver is under-performing. i like USLV it is a 3x levered silver fund.  :awesomenod:
one day ill learn how to better use derivatives, until then i <3 USLV

Id much rather own physical silver than invest in it like I would a stock. Not only am I hedging against potential inflation I can also just wait for a price spike and sell then wait for the price to fall rinse repeat gain more and more ounces!

I used to do this when I lived in New Jersey.

I have four methods setup. I would buy in vast amounts, not just bullion but jewelry and coins

I had "clients" who would come and buy from me

1 I could take down all your info and set it up as a "donation" through an NPO like the salvation army or a church so that the money you exchange becomes a tax write-off

2 The full out no name, cash transaction(My favorite, way less paperwork)

3 low cost buy back of bullion and silver

4 the refinement of my own over-stock jewelry.

5(I never did this but I though about it) use a false identity, certain online banks will not verify you and will allow you to have multiple accounts, and you can access them through ip safe locations. when you want to cash out or send the purchased products you can use an apartment building. and use a random building # with instructions to deliver it to the office from there you can say that your girlfriend/Boyfriend had you send the package to your place bc your in the process of moving. If you use a fake name make sure to have a fake ID on you so that you can be identified as that fake person and claim your package. do it randomly from apartment complex to apartment complex till your out of $ and alot of those online banks dont care where the money comes from.

Depending where you live, there are generally gold & silver metal buying and selling places everywhere. I live in a pretty big city so they are easy to find. You can walk into any one of them with cash and they will sell you as much as you want. Like Rail_gun said, transactions over $10k start raising red flags so you should buy $6k - $8k at a time from different vendors. The place I go never asks for any ID and they do not even know my name. They write a cash receipt out and I walk out the door. Easy as eating pie. Also, I do not know if this is everywhere, but the place I go, if I buy over $1,000.00 worth of whatever, I do not get charged sales tax.

Whats the difference? The government would try and make gold as illegal as crack if they could.

I totally understand, the derivatives of silver carry the risk of losing an investment entirely. I have a physical position in silver just because i love the weight and design on the silver. i like 5 oz rounds from all over the world.
i need the liquidity only electonics can give. also i had a bad experience shipping my silver to apmex....apmex call me and said they recieved the package opened(the package burst) and i was freaking out!!! it was all accounted for, but i had a panic attack.

anyways now if i want to sell i go to a local bullion place.
to each their own.
