Twist....Pull......Patch....
Did you see the word "Patch" this time?
If you pinch the base of the mushroom, twist it and pull hardly any substrate (if any) will come up at the base of the mushroom.....often times If the mushroom is really stuck in there I'll just pinch it and remove it.
If I do happen to rip up a small chunk of substrate I just fill it in with some verm/coir.....
It's not bad advice, just a different way of harvesting....god forbid any of us do anything different or we automatically go down as not being able to cultivate....

It is terrible advice! Your fruitbodies that you're tearing from the substrate are cover in knot's at the base. Do what you want, but your wrong. Go ahead a cut your own dick.
WTF is with patching? WHat does it haft to do worth the thousand's of knot's you just unknowingly tour from the ground? Twist and pull is the dumbest thing I've ever done in this hobby. Commercial grower would NEVER twist and pull.
Like RR said about it that quote, a noob came up with this and it's old bad information.
Quit being a little butt hurt baby. Your wrong. Go cry somewhere else.

Normally the base of the mushrooms either have mature fruit bodies in a cluster or aborts at the base.
Commercial growers will not be concerned with a few knots being damaged or destroyed when harvesting a mature crop, clearly the knot (if not a pin) is a dud.
After harvesting, dunk, 24-48 hour recovery period and fruit again, new knots
Grow some more before trying to tell me anything Civil.
as far as RR, his word is NOT the word of god, I know lots of other people that find RR's information questionable. (Some of it)
And im not going to go cry, im going to go spawn a case of 50/50 rye/millet jars to two monotubs to help the new guys with prints......Was going to post pics but the upload service is bugged out atm.
Anyways, If you twist, pull and patch its not going to hurt anything, just dont rip them out like a gorilla

I have done the experment serval time's! I'm not going to agrue about this. It's dumb, you'll learn one day.
As for needing to learn how to grow more... show me one flush of your's, that look's like these. :p

"twist & pull"

Cut at base of stem.

EDIT - Also not MAZ is extremely easy to harvest. Try and twist and pull with Golden Teacher and you'll never twist and pull again.
Dunking coir is pointless. But that's another subject.

I twist and pull...not gorilla style, either. Not saying that scissors arent necessary sometimes. Ive found that most of what is directly adjacent to the mature bodies is so embedded that you have to pull them with. Even when I was carefull to separate them, they aborted and werent much as it is.
When I pull them, they are rocked on all directions and twisted IN PLACE WITH NO PULLING to cleary remove them from the sub. In a dense flush, I take my time and stategically pick and choose what to pull first. I will say that I have never cut it to a nub and left it. I always though this was unadvisable.

I harvested two Oz's of mature mushrooms and a half oz of aborts....the aborts were a pain in my ass, especially a half oz worth (dry) .... They were twisted and most of the time, when harvesting, after twisting them a few times they pop right off....

Trust me, if twisting and pulling caused major damage to future flushes I would not do it....but I do not rip up chunks of substrate either when harvesting.
One more pic....
Do any of you guys see chunks of substrate on the stems? And no, I did not clean those, just harvested by twisting (2-3 times) and pulling if a pull is even needed.

How many strain's have you grown?
If you twist and pull Golden Teacher, you'll end up with half a substrate. MAZ. come's off the substrate super easy. You can almost flick the fruit's over. However, look in the two photo's I compared. If I had twist and pulled the photo I cut, I bet money it would've fruited all from the side's.
If you guy's want to twist and pull and pass on bad info. More power to you.
Peace

Civil....this is a 2nd account.... my original shroomery account was under Pr0_X but asked for it to be shutdown due to another members mental deficiency and posting fire arms with his grow and threatening to murder me over who grew mushrooms better....
And its not the "strain" they're all p.cubensis, some do grow (thicker) then others but if you really want to know how many cube varieties Ive grown in 8 years....
South American, Pes Hawaiian, PES, Creepers, Malabar, Two of the Mex strains, Tapalpa, Kou Thai Samui, Orissa, Lizard King, Malabar, F+, Tasmanian, Golden Teacher..... That's all that I can remember off the top of my head.
If anyone needs to verify my experience with p.cubensis then check my trade list under both accounts, I use to hook up the new guys with prints on a regular basis until people started being ignorant pos on these forums.

Okay, I'm sorry for saying your a newb. lol
But you haft to know what I'm talking about.
It almost look's like your twist and pulling but still leaving the stem base in the substrate. At least that's what your photo suggest's to me.

I don't have this problem because I have yet to get a flush with an even canopy in the two years I've been doing this lmao
how I evny your tubs civil . When I tried to make a tub like yours (expanding shoebox show off) I got like 1 oz total.
I cant seem to make agar transfers right either :/ Tossed like 25 plates cause I got rage-y that they're all a 4th transfer and still had circles of bacteria growing faster than the myc could Plus the only plates that made it to a second transfer were the ones i dropped pins on. All the tissue clones and spore drops contamed too bad on first plate and were tossed
I know its not my hood cause all the bags and jars I opened for g2g are just fine.
Is it strange that the bags I shot 4cc of glc into are leaps and bounds faster (already 100%) than my g2gs?

I had the same issue and I got bitched out for twist and pull. Cut at base with sharp knife, after the dunk I found for me at least, the rest can be rubbed off and if not, take a knife and cut as close to it as you can. Boom baby.

The cut stems do not rot! I will not say i dont twist and pull but only certain strains does it work well. Although you will be told none of them should be twisted and pulled.
