possible contamination
    #16788678 - 09/04/12 06:59 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Hello all

will not lie I am very much a beginner with all this but very eager to learn and read through the threads.

I have a batch of Brazilians growing on verm/bfr cakes I have birthed them and did the dunk and roll technique. I noticed what I thought appeared to be cob web mold on 2 of the cakes. I read about a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution to mist the cakes. I initially misted them all for good measure and 24 hrs later I noticed that same stuff growing again but only on one cake. I have not seen pins yet and do not expect any due to setback from the spray. What do you all suggest I do? Thanks! Was not able to upload photo due to incompatibility with android or some bolognie like that

Also the cobweb growth appears to be developed on top of cake in one corner

Are you sure it's not mycelium? A lot of people mistake thin mycelium for cobweb but cobweb is rare on cakes. If it was cobweb it would be because your FC has little to no fresh air exchange.

Is there any way I can send you a photo of it another way? You may be correct but as of yet I have not seen any similar growth on the other cakes which leads me to think either its cobweb or the cake is maturing quicker then the others

Update. As of today they have started pinning but that cake appears to be the only one with wispy cottony looking stuff on top of cake I dosed that cake twice in 3% hydrogen peroxide the growth does.not appear to be growing further. As I understand cobweb is a.voracious grower and would of taken over by now. Do I leave the cake or remove it for safest bet? Ugh I wish I could figure how to post pics

I don't have any pics of cobweb at the moment but if it looks anything like this it's thin mycelium.

Cobweb would look more like a beard
