Exposed grains in a tray?

I had plans on spawning a to a grow bag. Well, I never used this type of substrate bag before and it was to small.
I wound up dumping everything in a ziplock container.
Because everything was already mixed, I didn't have enough compost to put on a top layer so there are grains exposed.
Is this ok or should I put on a casing layer after colonization?

Go get a bag of peat and verm to make a casing layer. Uncased grains almost always turn green and rarely fruit. Don't leave any exposed. RR

QFT.
In my experience I've found that my monos fruit well without a casing layer; casing trays however, (50/50+, added crushed oyster shell, & hydrated lime according to Ryche Hawk's tek) in my GH always ended up with a better pinset and overall flush.

Should I wait until full colonization or just pull it out and case it now?
I know typically one would wait for full colonization, and thanks for the replies.
EDIT: These aren't grains only, they are mixed with mushroom compost but have some grains exposed on top...

I always waited till almost/ 100% colonization, cased, incubated, patched at first signs of mycelium, then introduced to FAE and light. Which worked pretty damn well.
Considering that it's spawned to bulk- grains at the top are ok from my experience. Just leave it be till near 100%, then case if you wish.
