Spore syringes
    #1676378 - 07/01/03 08:03 AM (20 years, 8 months ago)

Should a spore syringe be slightly warm or at least room temperature to innoculate? I was just wondering cause i know spores go dorment if it is too cold.

Most teks say to allow them to be at room temperature before loading them with spores and likewise allowing the syringe to be at room temp before innoculation if you refridgerated it after you made the syringe. Personally, I would just make my syringes the same day I would innoculate...saved time/energy.

Boppity

As incubation could take days to weeks, allowing spore solutions to reach room temperature would have no reasonable benefit.

Inoculate * warm or cold. No real difference.

*Edited to correct spelling for Anno. hehe

I found that it is easier to get the "visible" spores in the syringe to come off the sides if the syringe is at room termperature.

AFOAF keeps his syringes in a drawer next to his computer.  It's about 85 degrees all the time and they still work when put to use.  Spores are extremely durable, some mold spores have been collected from space and grown, some spores have sat in the Tombs of Egypt for 10,000 years and still grew readily when inoculated.  I doubt that you'll hurt them by keeping them at a modest room temp for a few weeks.

Extra-terrestrial mold? If mold were ever collected from space and cultivated, it would be interesting to see what it would become.

I think he means, spores were brought to space, left, and survived to be regrown back on earth.
