WEIRD liquid mycelium, help me tell what it is.

Hey guys, i once again need your help. I made some liquid mycelium innoculant out of 4% karo corn syrup (the kind with a little bit of vanilla and salt in it), and then i let it sit in an incubator for a week. I came back and there was a scum that looked kind of like mycelium on the bottom, it wasn't growing in strands like mycelium, it was a sheet. But it looks legit... I shook it up, and it solidified into a ball of snot kind of. I'm going to grow some of it out, but you guys think it's mycelium? I don't what it looks like in karo syrup or whatever so...

Did you sterilize it first?

I've had a similar thing happen.. kind of a sheet of slippery looking translucent gunk on the bottom of the jar (like a blob of jellyfish). I couldn't imagine it was mycelium so chucked it away. It'll be interesting to see what you end up with anway :tongue:

I'm pretty sure thats a contam. Give it a whiff, hows it smell?

Yes Ainasko, i did sterilize it in the PC at 15psi for 20 mins. I thinnk i might just grow a little out anyways to see what it is.

    Mine looked the same..... ( i guess :smile: ) And the jars innoculated with them are colonizing right now. ( That doesn't help much, does it?.... :wink: )

is it sugars thats clumped together?I know when i frist did the liquid tek on mine i used honey powder 4% and i pc it for 20 min @15 psi and i got some what looked to be sugar clusters and i just let it grow like you said and i got mycelium growth after 2 weeks it took a long time bfore you will see mycelium but just hold off you should see it sooner or later also what it might be is that you over persure cooked it and it carmelized

No it wasn't carmelized shit. It developed when i went away to college orientation a few days ago. I think it's mycelium, i shook those jars up and it looks more like mycelium. I don't want to open them to smell them till i use them.

well if it looks like myclium let it grow out and see what happends no need to open it cuz you may contam it.If the "scum" is white looking and growing it prob is mycelium so let it grow out for another week or so just to make sure that it is mycelium.I know when i did the honey tek it took 2 weeks before i saw mycelium growth so just chill for now

Yeah, i turned it into syringes today. I put it in a mini cuisinart and gave it a few blasts... I hope that works for mycelium syringes, because you could make literally hundreds out of one syringe. I'll tell you what i get from it
