Should manure and straw stink?
    #1677117 - 07/01/03 03:56 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

I just checked on two big bins Im using for a bulk project. There is no sign of contams and it looks like mycelium is developing (although slower than I had expected). The think is it stank, not like wetspot realy because a whole tub of that would be terrible. This was just a noticable funk. Any thoughts?

Did you pasteurize??? after pasteurization, poo shouldn't smell really bad. quite grass-like, that is if you got the right kind of poo (dried so the ammonia could dissapate). as colonization continues the smell should turn to a more shroomy scent.

Im having the same issue but with worm castings.
Same deal, after 5 days it started smelling horible. I transfered it over to a tupperware container w/lid so i wouldn't smell it. Colonization is slow as well.
