poo and casing Question
    #16769013 - 09/01/12 12:13 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I'm ready to load up some bags and i want some opinion on what i should do and use.

I have composted horse manure, straw, and gypsum. Will this be good enough or should i get something else to throw in the mix.

I have failed at pasturizing this manure i got ( recieved from someone). It produces flies when being fruited after fully colonized.(never had issue with any other manure). So i must sterilize it in the bags and just drop grains into. So in all, the question drops down to, should i soak the straw for a day then chop it up and put it in bag, or is ok to mix it with the poo, water, and gypsum in one bowl, stir, and fill?
thanks

Can i case Cubes with cactus soil mix? Any benefits?

What does the manure look like?

I've never done the oven bag thing but it seems like soaking the straw would be the best way to achieve field capacity going into the bag.

I think cactus soil would work. Adding some verm would make it better.

I would try a 1.5-2 hr submersion pasteurization for both the sub and the casing.

Fuck the casing layer.  Cubes fruit fine without one and you'll be saving time and money if you skip it.  From the way you describe your horse manure it doesn't sound like it's ready to be used as cube substrate yet.  For cube myce, you want that shit all grey to black looking and dry as a bone (unless it's just rained or something).
