Thanks, that's my favorite place to go around this way. We don't really have mountains around here, just little hills.

Very cool. Those woods look great for mushroom hunting.

She saw me taking a closeup and decided to get her own version of one I guess. How deep does that mine go? Probably a stupid question but I don't know anything about mining marble. Are there any ore veins visible from outside? That would be pretty cool. I enjoy caving so I guess a mine is like the next best thing, maybe a little more or less dangerous though, haha.
Here are some old caving pics. There were a lot of formations that had been visibly removed by hammer/chisel, which sucks. I don't normally take a camera into caves because it's normally a bit of excess gear I don't want to tote around through tight spots and stuff but this particular cave is super easy to navigate and relatively roomy. I call it a good "newbie cave" to get people acclimated to the feeling of being in one without getting all claustrophobic and stuff.

The ones that are easy to walk through are always the ones where people can't leave shit alone. We don't have real mountains here but there are a ton of caves in Ga. My first real cave was one called petty johns in North Ga and it was a little intimidating for the first time ever being in one with all the squeezing through tiny spaces and slipping on mud constantly. That looks like a great first time cave.
The mine actually doesn't go back very far, there is a little cave like opening at the back that goes back about 20-30 feet but that's it. There's a stream at the top though that makes a little waterfall flow over it in the right season so it's still a pretty cool little day hike and there are tiny little frogs everywhere too!

That one's full of bats usually, I get a little paranoid knowing they have fungal parasites and stuff that are wiping a lot of them out so I try to avoid making any sort of contact with them to keep from transporting it around or whatever. There are a lot of old abandoned mines locally but I don't really fuck around with them. Very dangerous places. There is one very big cave, the biggest I've seen that isn't commercially operated, my friend and I crawled very deep into it and found a few deep holes full of water and one place where it had washed in and out so many times that it formed a little miniature sand beach. Pretty cool cave, but I haven't been back in that one for years because last time I looked there was a lot of fresh looking cave fall and stuff plus it's on private property..

Those things creep me out man. I actually just started going into real caves about a year ago but now I won't be able to again for probably another year so I'm planning on taking a little trip up to cloudland canyon when it warms up a little and see what that place is all about. I'm guessing you're from somewhere around this way? Those first pics were from little river canyon in Alabama.

They're not so bad when they're that small. I feel bad for them knowing about that fungal parasite thing that's decimating their population. I might be wrong about that, though, at least I hope so. Maybe they're recovering. I live in the Appalachian part of VA, in the narrow part of the state where the mountains cut through it.

They actually have cute faces but the rest of them just look like rats that can fly to me lol They don't get very big at all here or least I haven't seen any that are big...that pic looks a lot like around here but the hills look more grouped together here, I wish I could find a pic. I'll make it a point to take one next time I'm near a good view.

Yeah, there are places where the mountains are a little more mountainous than glorified hills. They run through my state in a weird angle and down into TN/NC where they get bigger. Ours are the Blue Ridge mountains.

That's where the milk I buy comes from, some place called homestead creamery. We also have a range called blue ridge here.
