your pictures weren't showing up earlier on my side. They look great now! My original comment earlier was not directed to anyone specific, I just know that it takes a lot more time to browse this thread when having to manually click on and open every photo to see what has been posted. I generally take all of my photos from my phone and they always need to be re-sized or you end up seeing a minimal amount of the actual photo unless you click on it.
Ahh cool, i just wanted to make sure everyone is happy I knew they werent going to show up at some point, sometimes when I upload to Mushroomobserver they get put into the Ajax temporary folder until the servers back them up, It was just taking a while, with a few adjustments withe the URL i fixed em. And thanks

Stropharia aurantica is a deprecated (no longer used) synonym of Leratiomyces ceres

Though now you mention it, I think these may actually be the rare Leratiomyces squamosus var. thraustus! Difficult to be sure from those photos though.

Because there are no studies showing that cutting with scissors is healthier for a patch than just pulling them up. Further, some people believe that clean cuts with scissors more readily open the mushrooms (and therefore the mycelium) up to infection

Gymnopilus spectabilis

Been waiting a long time to find an active Pluteus! I pulled it out thinking it was just another Pluteus but when I flipped it over there was some heavy bluing all in the stem and after a closer look the cap had it too! Pluteus salicinus

Good luck out there!

So far only 1 of the 21 spots I've found cyans in Portland is fruiting strongly. 2 more are fruiting feebly. 2 I haven't visited yet. Not even pins at the 16 others I checked.
In past years, all the spots have pretty much gone off at once. This is making me worry that between last year's weak fruitings and this year's bone dry last few months, most of my former spots are dead.
How are other peoples' spots performing relative to previous years, so far?

My spots aren't kicken yet either. I'm starting to see some pins now. It's odd that I'm not seeing other types of mushrooms by now though. Hopefully it's just because it's been so dry up here.

Only two of my spots are popping this year, and in drastically reduced numbers. I'm not that concerned, still a while to go.

@Joust That plutes is fucking cool! It could be pluteus washingtonensis. We don't see enough of this kind of thing, very cool. Quote:

Check one of mine today and nothing yet. Reeked of cyanescens mycelium though, still early in the year.

Yeah I ove that pic with the shot of the underside and focus on the stem P. washingtonensis is very likely synonym of Pluteus brunneidiscus, and the spore size is wrong for that

Here is the actual description of Psilocybe washingtonensis:
Quote:
Psilocybe Washingtonensis Smith sp. nov.
Description as written in the (scanned-to-pdf)1946 article New and Unusual Dark-Spored Agarics from North America published in the Journal of the Elisha Mitchell Scientific Society:
(Latin Summary) Pileus 1-2 cm. latus, obtuse conicus vel convexus, viscidus, glaber, hygrophanus, obscure vinaceo-brunneus demum pallide vinaceo-brunneus; lamellae latae admatae demum subdecrrentes, confertae demum subdistantes, obscure vinaceo-brunneae; stipe 3-5 cm. longus, 1.5-2.5 mm. crassus, aequalis, intus pileo concolor; velum griseum; sporae 6.3-7.5 (8) x 3.8-4.5 microns; pleurocystidia 38-56 (64) x 9-12 microns, subventricosa, obtusa; cheilocystidia 26-38 x 7-11 microns vel 18-26 x 10-12 microns, distinctissima.
Pileus 1-2 cm. broad, obtusely conic to convex, not expanding, margin bent in slightly at first but soon straight, glabrous except for a faint marginal fringe from a rudimentary veil, viscid, hygrophanous but opaque when moist, “walnut brown” (deep vinaceous brown) on disc and “wood brown” (dark avellaneous) near the margin, fading slowly on the disc first to a dull cinnamon color and when dried pale pecan brown or more avellaneous along the margin, pellicle separable only in shreds; flesh thin, 2 mm. in the disc and tapered evenly to the margin, pliant, “rood’s brown” moist (dark vinaceous brown), pallid tan when faded, odor faintly fragrant, taste bitterish, lamellae broadly and squarely adnate and developing a slight tooth in age and then subdecurrent, horizontal, broad, (3-3.5 mm.) at the stipe, close to subdistant, about 24 reaching stipe, 2-3 tiers of lamellulae, evenly “verona brown” (slightly darker than the pileus); stipe 3-5 cm. long, 1.5-2.5 mm. thick, equal, tubular, dark brown within, rather pliant, surface covered with grayish fibrils but color beneath the fibrils at first concolorous with pileus and becoming blackish brown in age at the base or over lower part, attached to wood or sticks by a grayish mat of mycelium.
Spores purple brown in deposit, 6.3-7.5 (8) x 3.8-4.5 microns, smooth, ellipsoid to slightly ovoid, near ochraceuos tawny when revived in KOH, apical pore present but small and inconspicuous; basidia four-spored, hyaline, 18-24 x 5-6 microns, narrowly clavate to subcylindric; pleurocystidia scattered to abundant, 38-56 (64) x 9-12 microns, narrowly fusoid ventricose with a rather long neck and obtuse to subacute apex, smooth or with mucilage adhering to the apex or neck, thin-walled, hyaline in KOH, the walls often flexuous above the ventricose portion; cheilocystidia of two types, the first type fusoid-ventricose with obtuse to subacute apices, 26-38 x 7-11 microns, often with adhering mucilage, hyaline in KOH, thin-walled and not proliferated, the second type broadly clavate to capitate, 18-26 x 10-12 microns, hyaline in KOH but more highly refractive than the ventricose type, mucronate or studded with two or more obtuse protubernaces over the enlarged portion, sometimes occurring as pleurocystidia near gill edge and often more irregular in shape, varying from cylindric with a contorted neck and subcapitate apex to irregularly lobed; gill trama dark yellowish brown in KOH, parallel to somewhat interwoven; pileus trama homogenous beneath a thin gelatinous pellicle, the hyphae of the flesh floccose and dark yellowish brown.
Habit, habitat and distribution: Scattered on old rotten conifer wood, Mt. Angeles, Olympic National Park, Washington, Sept 21, 1941, elev. 2500 ft A.H. Smith 17097-type. A second collection was made at Lake Mills, Sept. 25, and a third at Olympic Hot Springs, Oct. 11, 1941.
Discussion: This is a very interesting species because it demonstrates nicely how the characters of the genera of the Strophariaceae intergrade. In P. washingtonensis the spores are truly purple-brown when fresh, but in other respects the fungus is very similar to Kuehneromyces vernalis. This is particularly evident in the cheilocystidia. The characters which distinguish the species from other Psilocybes are the slightly viscid pileus, the two types of cheilocystidia, the pleurocystidia and the small ellipsoid spores. Psilocybe ferrugineo-lateritia Vogl. appears to be close to P. washingtonensis, but it is described as moist (not viscid), as occurring on mossy soil, and as having much brighter colors.

Slugs ravaged my cyanescens patch last night... I'm very butt hurt. I need to figure a way to keep the slugs away if they fruit again or I am going to end up empty handed.
