Official PNW 2012-2013 Fall Magic Mushroom Thread * 7
    #16762536 - 08/30/12 08:42 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

Found these on a lawn near sea level, with a sprinkler system running daily. These pictures were all taken the last 4 days. very cool to find some Blue Ringers during this dry spell!
:jah:
Managed to get a couple shots, planning on taking more and updating the thread, had to be quick about it;

quick shot of some of the clusters, perfect looking blue ringers,

Another quick macro shot I took that actually turned out half-decent, shows the nice form of these ringers. They are very majestic compared to the other blue ringers I have found.

A couple close ups, this patch is known for very vivid bluing. I like!

:vibin:

This one was just a nice one that has bluing near the base. The cap was also nice, although its kind of hard to see the light-blue annulus in this picture.
Gill Shot.

Biggest one of them all, sorry, forgot to compare it to something for size. The cap was about the size of a quarter or so.
And the total Haul:

YOO-HOO!!!!

:feelsgoodman:

What a great way to kick off the season for me! I've found another summer-fruiting blue ringer patch, although it is struggling compared to the other one, it is a cool discovery and I hope will flourish more as the season goes on.
Sadly, I was on a bike ride and was only able to snap a quick couple shots of it. Also note the patch was quite small, with  mushrooms growing out of only the areas that receive shade throughout most of the day:

Gill Shot, the blue is kind of faded out of the annulus due to dying:

:vibin:

Also checked on the other patch when I went on a walk, I can never seem to get many good pictures from that patch.... :blowmybrainsout:

Probably because I suck at photography, I'm getting better though:

Nice Bundles:

I tried taking multiple macro shots..only ended up with one semi-decent one, with dog butt in the background.

:teabird:

to those of you who are waiting to see some blue, it's on:shroompick:

Psilocybe cyanofibrillosa:  Took me two fucking years of work for this patch to fruit. got a little dry, but caught em before they totally dried out.

Went out browsing early since there was a pretty heavy rain two days ago. Found about 4 types of mushrooms and some puffballs among other things. Counted 27 different mushrooms. Fairly certain nothing was active. It felt nice just to find something though.

Edit:i'll keep that in mind and won't post until i find some actives or need an I.d. I wasn't seeking an i.d. i was just showing photos of what i saw - i'll offer my apologies in the form of being relevant from here out.

These ones are a bit better:sunny:

Ok, stick with me now, and try to watch what happens. It took me a second to really see what was going on, but it makes total sense when you think about it.

Yes, that just happened, and yes they have a gold colored striation that twists up the stipe. It even goes counter-clockwise:datass: Wonder if it would be the same in the southern hemisphere? The patch was covered with the cup fungi for a while, and some are still nice and soft. Little did I know, the fibs look like they have been growing underneath them for at least a few days. It happened in more than one spot too:yesnod:

Don't know how much I will be posting in this thread, so until next time

They do look similar, but a close observation and microscopy can tell them apart very fast. Ummmmmm Stuntzii and Semilanceata aren't even in the same section, but I get what you are saying:super:

that's great. For me i can see for the first time obvious difference with 'friscosa' and ovoids even in the pin stage

true cyanofobrillosa is indeed different. I do not think we have seen those in the Bay Area yet

I don't think cyanofibs have made it that far. Something tells me that you could probably get away with a personal patch that is taken care of, but I doubt they would spread to the surrounding environment. They're reclusive enough as it is:shrug:

Quite a strange species, and I'm learning a ton as things progress. Notes need to be updated and microscopy will come once I finally pick that first one. Still waiting a few days, maybe tuesday or wednesday. Fresh prints:sunny: From what I know about their growth patterns, there might be some epic pictures in about a month. We will see:datass:

Hunting in a few hours. This is to the date when I found stuntzii last year, so we will see what happens.

New pins. Funny, in the first picture I only noticed three when taking the photo. If you look close, there are 7 new buddies:

cespitose growth. A slug got the best of one, but I did away with him. No slugs, at least till spores drop:bliss:

This guy is cool, the little bug is probably tripping ballz. I'll let him have his fun.

Yes, they are potent as fuck:thaaannks:

nice man!

Just got back from a nice sunny morning ride to my newest additions, somebody (May the myco gods rain blue love all over your face) took their own personal time to clean up the area where I established a new az bed and a new cy bed by actually chopping and chipping the dead hardwoods within a 30yd radius and spread the chips evenly over the entire area, I had no idea this had happened and my cyan bed has now crept out to double it's original size.

got a beautiful shot of some aggressive mycelium but I'll have to wait until my wife gets home to upload because she has the USB cord.

Us OR hunters need to channel our dry-heat-fueled rage into motivation to go out with a few gallons of water and give the little guys some extra help!

Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures. City workers were near by and had to do kind of a walk by lean and snap. Either way found another spot with a few more little patches starting up.

I am very pleased to make this report that my outdoor azurescens bed I started last year has its first two pins!  I kept this pot moist all summer so that definitely helped get these guys off to a fast start, but I honestly didn't expect to find anything for another few weeks, at least!

You can see the larger pin growing between the edge of the pot and the soil line.  The smaller, harder to spot pin is to his right, which isn't as dark brown.

So exciting!  I will post updates as they grow.

So I went back to my blue ringer patch yesterday and it was packed full. It looked like this

And to give an example of where I find them, this is a grass divider between a sidewalk and a highway. This patch is a couple blocks away from the main patch posted above. The patch above is in front of a car lot. And I'm from inland southern Oregon nowhere near the coast been sunny hot and dry

They're bruising intensely blue.

Just yesterdays pickins dried up to 6.7g and 3.2g the first picking. So 9.9g dry so far. More to come! ...I found tubaria species in some woodchips indicating cyans are soon to pin!

Just a quick update, the above-posted pin that I claimed as an azurescen turned out to be a rusty-brown-spored impostor.  But, the good news is that a nice cluster of around 10 pins popped out from underneath this stick.

I am confident in the ID of these as azurescens.

Blue ring evident on top, upward-oriented shroom, just below the brown of the cap.  The blue ring is noticeable on most of the pins to the naked eye but my camera has a hard time capturing it.

4 more pins growing in this section although only 3 are seen here.

A few more hot days to nurse these guys through before it gets chilly and rainy next week!
