First grow, contamination question (New Pics 9/10)

Hi
I have been reading all the cultivation logs, teks, and advice here for a few months and finally started my first attempt. I followed rr's pftek, only accidentally neglecting two steps (forgot to shake the syringe and overshot my inoculations filling 6 1/2 pint jars with entire 10cc syringe.
I inoculated on a saturday morning and by Tuesday began seeing cottony growth. After researching I have come to learn that contamination could appear a dull ish white and look cottony. I was wondering if at the earliest stages of mycelium growth - it appears a dull ish white because its a bit translucent or if it should all be a uniform brighter white. I would greatly appreciate any seasoned growers to comment how my jars looked. I took these shots 5 days after inoculation. All growth begins where the inoculation holes are on the jars. Thanks!

Superb, you're well on your way!
Even though you didn't shake the syringes, there are still millions of microscopic spores throughout the liquid. (hopefully, and clearly in this instance)
Using too much spore solution can cause harm if it throws off the moisture content of the jars too much.

That was a concern after I realized how much I was injecting. Would injecting around 2 cc's per jar instead of one also account for the fast mycelium growth? The jars are being kept in a dark closet around 76-78 degrees.
Thanks for the replies

Maybe, more spores germinating may result in more points for the myc to start growing.
While it isn't required, mushrooms benefit from 12/12 lighting at all stages of growth, as they too have circadian rhythms.
Your temps are ok, but they probably prefer the lower end of 70-75°F. They would be fine higher than what you have as well, but temperatures nearing 80°F and above are better environments for bacterial growth as well.

Good to know. I guess I am a little paranoid as my only frame of reference as to how things should look are are the pictures from others grow logs on this site. I read mixed opinions about where and how to store the jars...right now I have been opening the closet letting in a bit of indirect sunlight, I could also move them into a room with air conditioning giving them a stable and set temp with more sunlight during the day. Would that be better for healthier growth? More concerned with that than speed.
Thanks again !

Most welcome.
I would move them to the room with ac and light. It would assuage both healthy and speedy growth.
Are you familiar with dunking and rolling prior to putting them in the fruiting chamber? Also, what are you plans for the FC?

from what I have read I plan on submerging the cakes in water a week after 100% colonization for 24 hours, then roll in the verm. I still need to build the FC for which the shotgun tub sounds the easiest and most effective. I guess I can use the same air conditioned room as it gets plenty of indirect sunlight and I can set the optimal temp.

Colonizing jars can be kept on an open shelf. Indirect sunlight can be beneficial. Keeping them in total darkness is not needed but it's not detrimental either (just a little bit slower sometimes). Hope this can clear things up

Honestly, I have the best luck setting them on an Old Book Shelve. That way I don't ever have to touch or move them, and have great luck. But of course not everyone has the advantage of open space.

Your plan sounds solid, friend. Kudos for consolidation time. Colonization space is abound, while fruiting space tends to be a bit harder to come by.
Just be sure to follow the specs for the SGFC. Last question, lol, not to jump the gun or anything, but drying plans? I would recommend a dehydrator, as it is fast, no loss in potency, and can be picked up pretty cheap.

I've found them pretty cheap at Thrift Stores. But also if your planning small grows (maybe for you and just friends)
A Damp-Rid Chamber will also suffice, can be found with the Search Engine.

I thought about getting one of those smaller cheaper dehydrators that go down to 95 degrees - but then read that the heat would decrease the potency. For small grows I was hoping a home made chamber with damp-rid on the bottom after fan drying would suffice. Any experience with dehydrators that use low heat? If I could get a hold of a usable dehydrator for less than 40 bucks get one.
How about storing in airtight jars in a zip-lock bag....would that suffice or would a vacuum sealer be necessary if I harvested enough to store.
appreciate the suggestions!

The actives in mushrooms dont break down until FAR above 200F.
Most dehydrators dont make it past 165F, I run mine for 12hrs at a time with no potency loss.
People also make tea by double boiling with no potency loss, water boils at 212F.
Bottom Line. USE HEAT

Notahacker420 nailed it.
Ziplock bags will be fine for short term, but if you're talking months/years, a vacuum sealer might be in order.

Thanks guys....good to know. Looks like spending 40 bucks or so on a dehydrator is the way to go then, plus it will pay off in not wasting edibles as a bonus. Now I just need to research some brewing methods, never heard of using a double boiler, I'll look that one up!

If you live in the desert you may not need a dehydrator. I've never seen it above 30% humidity here typically 15-20% average. If you've got a/c that makes it dryer too. Mine are cracker dry over night just laying on foil. I have a damprid chamber but only use it when I pull out those monster 60+ gram wet ones.

Hey
Been looking at pictures of cakes prior to birthing and it is hard to tell i mine are 100% colonized. Should I wait until the mycelium is not transparent at all? I am also worried about small black specks as well as yellowing (there is some condensation so just hoping its metabolites)
IF anyone cares to comment on the looks looks of these - I'd welcome and appreciate the comments

100% colonization is when the substrate becomes covered in Mycelium. After the day it reaches that point wait 7 days for consolidation. And then birth them.
We cannot tell if we only have one side pic, what about the bottom
