Does your weight impact the size of dose you should take? My friend weighs only 95 pounds and I am planning on tripping with him, should he be careful about how much he eats. good dosage?

Weight, blood pressure, metabolism and health all affect your personal dosage.  As well as the actual nature of the chemical you're gonna dose.

I beg to differ... sensitivity to psilocin may vary from person to person but weight isn't a key factor in determining a person's dosage. A person's body weight does not determines how many seritonin receptors someone has in their brain. Blood pressure and metabolism probably play a much bigger roll then a person's weight.

Suppose you should really dose depending on the size of the head

A bigger brain should generally have more receptors and neurotransmitters, right?

Does happy people have more receptors than depressed people? Maybe the happier one is, the more one needs to dose!
I wonder if it's possible to come up with a theory any less scientific, he he

I'd have to agree djd586 saying that weight isn't one of the main factors in determing dosage. However, usually people who are thin and relatively light usually have a much faster metabolism than people who weigh more. I doub this is true in all cases tho......

Weight affects blood pressure which affects how the dosage is delivered throughout the body.  Weight is merely a FACTOR in dosing.  Why do you think getting accurate weight/BP/pulse is part of writing up a chart before meds are prescribed?  Ah...the light bulbs go on.   Take some nursing or EMT classes...you'll learn a lot about the basics of how prescriptions are made and delivered.

Love & Light,

Boppity

I see, so the heavier you are the higher your bp?? (The cogs in my brain are slowly turning).... I'd give the guy a lower dose seems he's only 95lbs but then again even if he takes a huge dose and freaks he'd be easy to restrain
Cheers bopp

Weight is a factor in determining dosage for any drug. What really matters is mg/L in the blood, but that is difficult to measure and control. Instead we calculate dosages based on mg/kg (drug weight to body weight). Other factors do play a role, but are often more difficult to control.

Drinking alcohol is a great example of this. You take two people that have no tolerance. One weighs 100 kg, the other weighs 50kg. Give them both one beer and measure their blood alcohol level. The one that weighs less will have a higher reading every time (all else being equal).

Look at an LD50 table for a drug... again it will be in mg/kg via route of administration. If weight didn't matter, the tables wouldn't bother to normalize it out.

As others have stated, there are many other factors that effect dosage as well. The subjects sex, metabolic rate, etc are all factors as well.

No, it's not correlative like that. But the heavier you are, the more chances of hyper-tension you could develop as well as other circulatory problems as you age.

I know that body weight obviously affects dosage in the mg/kg way but I was referring to mushrooms and there is no practical way of seeing how many mgs of psilocin, psilocybin etc are in 2.5g of shrooms as there are so many variations in potency. What you are saying is correct in the utmost. The guy who wieghs 95lbs is going to have a higher mg/kg ratio, however that does not inherently mean, although most likely, that he is going to have an inteser experience. In my opinion weight is one of the least important factors again speaking about mushrooms, considering the are so many other factors to consider. For me, mindset is the most important factor. I dont weigh my friends before I give them shrooms but I like to see what frame of mind they are in....

I think what should be emphasized is that there is no standard dose across the board; period.  I'm 6', 240lbs and when it came to dosing psychedelics...I've always need larger doses than my friends (heavy and thin alike) in order to trip.  There could be plenty of reasons as to why I have a higher threshold...and I agree...weight is probably on the lower end of the spectrum of those factors that would make a trip threshold higher for me than for others.

Boppity
