Drying question
    #16743277 - 08/27/12 02:11 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I have been drying my (golden teacher) harvest in a laundry basket with a fan and storing in an airtight container with a couple desiccant packets. This is my first harvest, and the dried mushrooms are very skinny. I had thought they would be meatier. Are they supposed to be real skinny? I know they lose volume obviously. But is there a way to make them grow denser (less water)? For reference 3 of my dried fruits came to 4.5 grams. Is this average?

Cooler fruiting temperatures.... They usually give healthier thicker fruits.
What is your room Temperature where the fruiting occurs?

As compared to higher temperatures which give you really hollow stipes.

Skinny fruits? I would say more FAE. Or are they just small but with the right proportions?

Fresh Air Exchange...

Lack of it will cause Skinny fruits.

Fresh air exchange. Do you fan your shrooms often? If CO2 levels rise too much, you shrooms will grow long and thin trying to reach oxygen.

FAE is an acronym for fresh air exchange.
FAE=FRESH AIR EXCHANGE
FAE stands for fresh air exchange.
FAE means fresh air exchange.

You need more of it.
You could use more fresh air exchange.
Skinny fruits? More fresh air exchange.
Without fresh air exchange, you are going to have skinnier fruits.
