if you really need to know: make a boot disk with delpart on it and use it to boot up. then you can wipe out partitions and re-format:
http://www.ntfaq.com/download/delpart.exe

There isn't actually a "dos"n XP.

Try this. Boot-up using your install disk. Choose R for repair when given that option. You can format from there.

Otherwise you have to use something like was already suggested or Partition Magic.

You download http://koti.mbnet.fi/~nibz/bootdisks/boot98se.exe and create a boot diskette.
You power up the computer with this disk and then use either the command FORMAT to format any drive you want, or FDISK to partition the disk.

Boot to dos with a dos boot disk and fdisk the partition away , if its your c, blow away the %sysroot% (winnt dir by default) and thats basically it. I repartition and reinstall xp , 2k and 2k server all the time and thats how I do it. But I also always make c: win 98 its a great backdoor since you can use it to boot right to a dos prompt...

Im not sure if you have formatted already or not, but if your reinstalling xp, you can enter your BIOS, change it so it boots to your cd drive first, then go from there....that's what i did and shiz is smooth
